President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, August 14, approved 127 Gallantry awards and 40 Distinguished Service awards to the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel. Also, on the eve of Independence Day, the President approved 290 Mention-in-Despatches, comprising 115 personnel of the Indian Army, five of the Indian Navy, 167 of the Indian Air Force, and three of the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB).
In her address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, President Murmu extended her heartiest greetings to the people of the country.
"It is a matter of pride for all of us that Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated by every Indian with zeal and enthusiasm. These are the days that especially remind us of our being proud Indians," said the President.

The President also approved Tatrakshak medals for five Indian Coast Guard personnel.
These medals are in recognition of their acts of conspicuous gallantry, exceptional devotion to duty, and meritorious service.

These awards honour extraordinary bravery and valour by members of the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces.
They are prestigious honours instituted by the Government of India to recognise exceptional acts of bravery, courage and sacrifice by members of the armed forces, other organised forces, and even civilians.
These awards honour and inspire acts of valour, often involving immense personal risk, whether in wartime combat or peacetime operations such as counter-insurgency, rescue, or security missions.
