Anna Wintour Chicly Steps Out at Wimbledon After 'Vogue' Role Change

12 hours ago 1

Anna Wintour is always chic — and always on point.

The former Vogue editor-in-chief, 75, attended Wimbledon on Friday, July 11, and Sunday, July 13.

On Friday, Wintour wore a long-sleeved, drop waist Thom Brown white dress adorned with blue flowers and Manolo Blahnik shoes. The style of gown was a bit of a departure from the typically nipped-in waist or column looks she’s often photographed in.

Wintour was photographed seated next to Nicole Kidman on Sunday. The media magnate is a well-known and avid tennis supporter and has attended the annual tournament several times over the years.

The longtime EIC announced her decision to step down from the role she held for 37 years on June 25. She will remain at Vogue as the magazine’s global editorial director and at Condé Nast as the publisher’s chief content officer. Wintour has long been credited for changing the direction of Vogue after she stepped into the position in 1988.

Her first celebrity cover was Madonna in 1989, and subsequent covers have featured everyone from Lady Gaga to Kim Kardashian.

Her role as chief content officer at Condé Nast will keep Wintour steering the ship for WIRED, Vanity Fair, GQ, AD, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, Bon Appétit, Tatler, World of Interiors, Allure, Teen Vogue, Ars Technica, and Them. The magazine will bring on a new head of editorial content in the U.S., which will create more opportunities for Wintour to spend time focused on the international markets Vogue currently operates within.

“Anybody in a creative field knows how essential it is never to stop growing in one’s work,” Wintour told Vogue’s staff while announcing her decision. “When I became the editor of Vogue, I was eager to prove to all who might listen that there was a new, exciting way to imagine an American fashion magazine.”

“Now, I find that my greatest pleasure is helping the next generation of impassioned editors storm the field with their own ideas, supported by a new, exciting view of what a major media company can be. And that is exactly the kind of person we need to now look for to be HOEC for US Vogue,” she added.

Sunday, July 13, is the final day of the tournament, which concludes with the men’s final. This year’s match is between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The match begins at 4 p.m. local time in London (11 a.m. EST in New York) and will be held at the tournament’s famous Centre Court.
