Apple has confirmed that iOS 26 will roll out on Monday, September 15, introducing a fresh design language and a host of new tools for iPhone users. The most striking change in iOS 26 is the new design language known as Liquid Glass. It adds a glossy, translucent finish to the interface, giving buttons, search bars and other elements a layered look that reveals subtle glimpses of what lies beneath. Apple is extending this design overhaul beyond the iPhone. The Liquid Glass aesthetic will also appear in iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26, bringing a unified look across its product ecosystem.
The interface was tested over several months in iOS 26 beta releases. Early versions drew concerns over readability, particularly in the Control Center where text and icons blended into the background. In later updates, Apple adjusted opacity levels and contrast to improve legibility, ensuring the design remains visually appealing while practical to use.
Smarter tools and improved apps
Alongside its design refresh, iOS 26 introduces several new features powered by Apple Intelligence. One of the most significant is Live Translation, which allows real-time conversation across supported languages.
The Phone app has also been redesigned, featuring a new layout that simplifies navigation. Call screening has been added, giving users greater control over unwanted calls.
In Messages, Apple has introduced the ability to create polls and add custom chat backgrounds, expanding options for personalisation and group interaction. The update also debuts a Games app, serving as a central hub for discovering, organising and playing titles on the iPhone.
Global release on September 15
Apple confirmed on its official website that iOS 26 will be released worldwide on Monday, September 15. The update will be available for all compatible iPhones on the day of rollout.
