Consumer confidence holds up better than expected in August

U.S. Consumer Confidence Index: 97.4 in August vs. 96.4 consensus and 98.7 in July (revised from 97.2), according to data released by The Conference Board on Tuesday.

Present Situation Index: 131.2, down 1.6 points from July.

Expectations Index: 74.8, down 1.2 points from the prior month.
