The Enforcement Directorate (ED) began searches at the residence of senior AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj on Tuesday morning. The Gurugram zonal office carried out the raids under the provisions of Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 at multiple locations in Delhi-NCR and Noida in connection with an ongoing FEMA case against M/s Business Parks Town Planners Private Limited (BPTP), according to sources.
The investigators searched as many as 13 premises, including Bhardwaj's residence, in connection with the Delhi hospital construction scam.
The news comes as multiple FIRs have been lodged against M/s BPTP and its directors in various police stations in the NCR.
Based out of Faridabad, Haryana, M/s BPTP is involved in real-estate sector, with Kabul Chawla as Chairman and Managing Director and Sudhanshu Tripathi as Whole Time Director, said the sources.
As per ED investigations so far, M/s BPTP allegedly received foreign investment amounting to more than Rs 500 crore under automatic route from foreign companies based in Mauritius during the period of 2007-2008 through put/swap options in contravention of the existing FEMA rules & regulations, said the sources.
Chawla had also allegedly anonymously held foreign assets, they added.

Delhi hospital construction scam in AAP era
Under the scam, large-scale financial irregularities, mismanagement, and embezzlement were suspected in a number of hospital infrastructure projects sanctioned by the AAP-led Delhi government during 2018-19.
The scam centers around significant cost escalations and irregularities in the construction of new blocks and upgrades in government hospitals across the national capital.
