Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has published provisional payroll data for May 2025, showing a net addition of 20.06 lakh members, the highest ever addition since the tracking of payroll data commenced from April 2018. This number illustrates a growth of 4.79 % in net payroll additions in the current month compared to the last month of April 2025.
In addition, the year-on-year comparison indicates a rise of 2.84 per cent in net payroll additions over May 2024, indicating improved job opportunities and greater awareness of employee benefits, supported by EPFO's successful outreach efforts.
Speaking about this achievement, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, said, “The EPFO has recorded an all-time high net member addition in May 2025, a testament to the growing strength of India’s formal employment landscape.
This historic achievement is the direct result of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership and the government’s unwavering commitment to pro-youth, pro-worker reforms.
With the Prime Minister at the helm, our emphasis on ease of doing business and economic empowerment is bearing fruit, and we continue to work towards creating a strong and inclusive labor ecosystem for a Viksit Bharat.
Important highlights of the EPFO Payroll Data (May 2025) are as under:
New Subscribers:
EPFO added nearly 9.42 lakh new subscribers in May 2025, up by 11.04% from April 2025. The rise in new subscribers has been driven by expanding job opportunities, awareness of employee benefits, and EPFO's successful campaigns.
Age Group 18-25 Dominates Payroll Addition:
One of the most prominent features of the data is the predominance of the 18-25 age bracket. EPFO registered 5.60 lakh new subscribers in the age group of 18-25, which was a high 59.48% of the total new subscribers added in May 2025. New subscribers in the age group of 18-25 added during the month have risen by 14.53% from the last month of April 2025.

This is also in sync with the previous trend that shows that the majority of fresh entrants into the organised workforce are youth and mostly first-time job seekers.
Rejoined Members:
Roughly 16.11 lakh members, who had previously left, returned to EPFO in May 2025. This number illustrates a 2.12 per cent rise compared to April 2025. It also reflects a remarkable 14.27 per cent year-on-year growth when compared to May 2024.
These members changed jobs and re-joined the organizations falling within the jurisdiction of EPFO and chose to transfer their accumulations rather than claim final settlement, thereby ensuring long-term fiscal prosperity and expanding their social security coverage.
Female Membership Growth:
Approximately 2.62 lakhs of new female subscribers joined EPFO during May 2025. It indicates a rise of 7.08 per cent over the last month of April 2025. It also illustrates year-on-year growth of 5.84 per cent over May 2024.
Additionally, the net female payroll addition for the month was approximately 4.25 lakh, up by 7.54 per cent month on month from April 2025 and showing impressive year-over-year growth of 15.04 per cent from May 2024. This rise in female member additions signals a larger movement towards a more inclusive, diverse workforce.
