Benchmark indices opened lower on Tuesday, tracking weak global cues and cautious investor sentiment. The Nifty50 dropped 50.25 points or 0.20 per cent to 24,630.65, slipping below the 24,650 mark. The Sensex was down 196.00 points or 0.24 per cent at 80,695.02.
Market breadth was nearly even in early trade with 1,061 stocks advancing, 1,080 declining, and 146 remaining unchanged.
Top Nifty gainers included ONGC, JSW Steel, Maruti Suzuki, HCL Tech, and Jio Financial, while Bharat Electronics, Shriram Finance, Infosys, Tata Steel, and ICICI Bank led the list of laggards.
