India's automobile industry is witnessing one of its biggest price corrections in recent years after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council announced its GST 2.0 reform, cutting tax on smaller passenger vehicles from 28 per cent to 18 per cent. The revised rates, effective September 22, 2025, have prompted carmakers across segments from hatchbacks to luxury SUVs to pass on substantial benefits to buyers. The discounts come just ahead of the festive season, which is traditionally the strongest demand period for the sector.
