Hugh Jackman Makes Rare Comment About Kids After Deborra-Lee Furness Split

Hugh Jackman’s a Hollywood showman, but are his kids looking to follow in his footsteps and become actors themselves?

“They’d both be very good, but I don’t know,” Jackman, 57, told E! News at the Sunday, October 26, world premiere of his latest film, Song Sung Blue, which costars Kate Hudson. “I just want them to do what they love.”

Jackman shares son Oscar, 25, and daughter Ava, 20, whom he adopted with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness in 2000 and 2005, respectively. The Australian actress has also gushed about motherhood in recent years.

“It’s so interesting being a parent, and they’ve both made me smarter than I think I ever could have been on my own,” Furness, 69, told People in November 2020. “But when you’re a parent, you can’t lie to them or yourself. They will shine a light on every one of your flaws, your Achilles heel, whatever. You’ve got to look at yourself.”

Furness and Jackman first announced their split in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage.

“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the former couple said in a joint statement to People at the time.

The statement continued: “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”

Furness filed for divorce from Jackman in May, nearly two years after they publicly announced their separation. Their divorce was finalized in June amid Jackman’s romance with his Music Man costar, Sutton Foster.

Us Weekly confirmed Foster, 50, and Jackman were dating in November 2024, almost three years after they first took the stage together in previews of The Music Man. Prior to that, the pair had been photographed out together sharing PDA moments in California and New York City. An insider told Us that their strengthening romance was the catalyst for Furness finally pulling the trigger on the divorce filing.

“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” an insider close to Foster told Us at the time. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap.”

Jackman and Foster recently made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Song Sung Blue premiere the same night he opened up about his kids. The pair smiled together in coordinating black outfits as they posed for photos with their arms around each other.

“They’re not rushing into marriage but are committed to taking the next steps together,” a second insider told Us in February of their relationship.

Foster, for her part, filed for divorce from husband Ted Griffin after nearly 10 years of marriage in October 2024. They share a daughter, Emily, 8, whom they adopted in 2017.
