Inside Trump Tariffs: Why India faces higher duty while US strikes deals with 7 nations so far
US President Donald Trump has announced 25 per cent tariffs on imports from India. Additionally, he dubbed India a "dead economy," voiced his disapproval of the BRICS, of which India is a part, and threatened additional penalties.
Apart from India, Trump has put steep tariffs on exports from dozens of countries like Switzerland, China and Taiwan. In a presidential executive order, Trump set rates that included a 35 per cent charge on various Canadian items, a 50 per cent duty on Brazil, a 20 per cent duty on Taiwan, and a 39 per cent duty on Switzerland.
