James Gunn’s Wife Jennifer Holland Admits She’s Not His ‘No. 1 Focus’

James Gunn’s wife, Jennifer Holland, is well aware that — for now — she is not her director husband’s top priority.

“I’ve not been, in any way, upset or judgmental with James, but I know that his number one focus right now at this time in his life has been taking on this opportunity that he has at DC with 100% full force,” Holland, 37, admitted to People in an interview published on Saturday, August 16.

“I think he’s doing that with just every ounce of his being, and he wants to make sure that it’s everything that the fans could hope for,” she added.

Gunn, 59, has been focused on his job as creator, writer and showrunner of the hit HBO Max series Peacemarker, starring his wife, Holland, as well as WWE’s John Cena and Orange Is the New Black’s Danielle Brooks.

Holland told the outlet that she has “very little” work-life balance at home with Gunn as a result of his many titles, which recently included writing and directing the latest Superman film.

“You’re always going to disappoint some people, that’s just the way it is,” Holland said of her husband’s efforts to make DC universe fans happy. “But if anyone could get a little piece of an insider view of what it’s like, he just wants to do the characters justice, and he just wants to give it what it deserves for all of these people who’ve lived with these characters in these comics that they’ve been reading [and] the characters that they created in their brains and everything.”

She added, “He’s very committed to making it the best that he’s able to make it.”

Gunn and Holland said “I do” in 2022 after seven years together.

“After over 7 years together, I finally married the love of my life, @jenniferlholland,” the Guardians of the Galaxy director captioned a September 30, 2022, Instagram post, announcing the happy news while sharing wedding photos from their Aspen, Colorado, nuptials. “What an incredible, beautiful, stunning day surrounded by the most wonderful family and friends in the world.”

Numerous Hollywood stars who have worked with Gunn in the past attended the event, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Nathan Fillion and Cena.

Still, the director later shared that the bride and groom had at least one unexpected and uninvited wedding guest.

“A Moose interrupted the beginning of the ceremony! For those who don’t know, moose are the most dangerous wild mammals in North America. But the big dude just wandered by,” Gunn tweeted at the time. “@MatthewLillard yelled out, ‘It’s James’ Dad!’”
