Jennifer Love Hewitt Addresses Sarah Michelle Gellar Feud Rumors

9 hours ago 1

Jennifer Love Hewitt has spoken out regarding ongoing speculation about where she stands with original I Know What You Did Last Summer costar Sarah Michelle Gellar.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be. I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy,” Hewitt, 46, told Vulture in an interview published on Friday, July 18. “Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

Hewitt and Gellar, 48, were costars in the OG I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997. Gellar’s character was killed off, while the characters made famous by Hewitt and Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., made it out alive and reprise their roles in the new version.

As Hewitt started promoting the July thriller, ‘90s-era rumors started swirling again that she and Gellar remained at odds.

“I haven’t seen Sarah. Literally, we’ve not talked since I  saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That’s why it’s so funny to me,” Hewitt told Vulture. “People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’ On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from.”

Hewitt further stressed that she is proud of Gellar and other actors of their generation for continuing to find success in Hollywood.

“There are people [who] blow up and are hugely famous, and then there are those little warriors from the ’90s who just keep going. I secretly root for all those people,” Hewitt added. “We’re steady little racehorses, and you can’t get rid of us. We’re a special breed.”

The two women both attended the IKWYDLS premiere on Tuesday, July 15, though they did not interact.

“For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened,” Gellar wrote via her Instagram Stories the next day, also denying feud speculation. “And unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the afterparty. If you have ever been to one of these, it’s crazy.”

She continued, “I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately, some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Gellar attended the Los Angeles premiere with her husband, whom she met on the set of the original IKWYDLS.
