Jessica Simpson has spent 2025 turning back the clock with a return to music and acting after a 15-year hiatus. Now that she’s single, the trend seems to have extended to her love life.
“I think I’m into younger men at the moment,” she told Extra in a story published Friday, October 17. “When you’re newly separated … I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older woman, I’m discovering.”
Most importantly, Simpson, 45, added, “I am having fun!”
Simpson and husband Eric Johnson publicly announced their separation in January, and while they have yet to formally file for divorce, they are instead “navigating their new truth,” a source told Us Weekly in September.
“They are getting along well, and everyone seems to be very happy,” the source said. “They talk and see each other all the time and have decided that no matter what happens, they will get along for the kids.”
Simpson and Johnson, 46, married in 2014 and share daughters Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, 6, and son, Ace, 12.
“Jessica and Eric have been very amicable recently and have been peaceful for the sake of the kids,” the source added.
“Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” Simpson said in a statement to Us. “We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
Now on her own, Simpson is also embracing a return to the stage. She debuted two new songs, “Breadcrumbs” and “Leave,” at South By Southwest in Texas, her first live performance in 15 years.
“It was an emotional coming back home to the best part of myself,” she wrote via Instagram under a video of footage from her set. “Thank you for embracing me. You know that I have so much to say, but this lucky voice gets to soar again tonight. I love y’all. More to come.”
She also released two EPs, her first releases since 2010, and has been touring throughout 2025.
“In my 40s now, onstage I’m not in my head at all,” she told Extra. “I’m just present because I took so long off that it’s like, ‘Wow, I love this part of my life and why did I ever leave?’”
Simpson has returned to acting as well. She has a recurring role in Ryan Murphy’s legal drama All’s Fair, set to premiere on Hulu November 4. All’s Fair boasts a star-studded cast that also includes Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Kim Kardashian and Naomi Watts.
“Honestly being around people like Naomi Watts who has this amazing quiet confidence about her, I learned to sit into the scene and listen and feel what was going on,” she said.
Simpson also teased that her character gets into some “steamy” situations.
“People are going to see some hot and steamy stuff from me, stuff I definitely only kept for the bedroom,” she said. “It’s not nude or anything. There’s definitely some naughty sides to my character, she’s trying to make her man happy and be as beautiful as she can even though she is aging.”
