Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller, After the Hunt, has already generated a ton of buzz ahead of its release.
Julia Roberts stars in the film as professor Alma Olsson, alongside Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield, telling the story of college student Maggie Price (Edebiri) who accuses Ivy League professor Henrik “Hank” Gibson (Garfield) of crossing the line.
A drama-filled trailer was released in July 2025, giving fans their first look at the A-list cast in their respective roles.
“Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri look excellent in this. Anything new from Luca Guadagnino is a reason to have me seated!” one fan excitedly wrote in a YouTube comment after the trailer’s release.
“Luca Guadagnino is one of our greatest living filmmakers. It’s just a fact. This looks awesome,” another echoed.

What Is ‘After the Hunt’ About?
“A college professor finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star pupil levels an accusation against one of her colleagues and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come to light,” the film’s official synopsis says, per IMDB.
Who Is in the Cast of ‘After the Hunt’?
In addition to Roberts, Edebiri and Garfield, the film also stars Michael Stuhlbarg as Alma’s husband, Frederik Olsson, and Chloë Sevigny as Alma and Hank’s colleague, Kim. Lío Mehiel, Ariyan Kassam, Will Price, Thaddea Graham, Christine Dye and Burgess Byrd round out the cast in supporting roles. Nora Garrett wrote the screenplay.
What Happens in the Trailer for ‘After the Hunt’?
At the start of the trailer, Garfield’s character takes a swipe at Gen Z.
“All your generation, you’re scared of saying the wrong thing,” he says. “When did offending someone become the preeminent cardinal sin?”
Edebiri’s character fires back, saying, “Maybe it’s around the same time your generation started making sweeping generalizations about ours?”
Roberts, who went blonde for the role of Alma, chats with her onscreen husband about how “brilliant” Maggie is. Things then take a turn after Maggie misses class. She arrives at Alma’s house and accuses Hank of sexually assaulting her.
Hank accuses Maggie of cheating in class and fabricating her story.

“It’s just like, amazing to me that a young Black woman can get assaulted and all these white people find a way to make it about themselves,” Maggie says.
Meanwhile, Alma struggles to get to the bottom of things while harboring her own secrets about the past.
When Will ‘After the Hunt’ Be Released?
After the Hunt will initially have a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on October 10, 2025, before a wider theatrical release nationwide on October 17, 2025.
