Kelsey Grammer is now a father of eight.
Grammer, 70, revealed the news during his appearance on the Monday, October 27, episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast, telling the hosts that he and wife Kayte Walsh “just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids.”
The actor said that their newborn, a son named Christopher, was born “three days” prior.
Back in June, the Frasier alum was spotted in London with Walsh, 46, who was sporting a growing baby bump.
Grammer shares daughter Spencer, 42, with first wife Doreen Alderman, daughter Greer, 33, with ex Barrie Buckner, and sons Mason, 24, and Jude, 21, with third wife Camille Meyer. He and Walsh, whom he married in 2011, are also parents to kids Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8.
Earlier this year, Grammer exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about fatherhood and the wide age gap between his eldest and youngest children.
“It’s been interesting,” he told Us in a May interview. “The age range is from [41] to 8. That’s pretty great. The 12, 10 and 8-year-olds are the ones I spend every day with, and it’s fantastic.”
He added, “[My kids] are amazing, and they make my life worthwhile. The love I have in my life today is absolutely breathtaking.”
At the time, Grammer had published his memoir, Karen: A Brother Remembers, in which he described the trauma of losing a child while Walsh was expecting twins in 2012. He said he’d experienced “the greatest pain” when he and his wife decided to abort one of the twins due to severe complications.
Doctors informed the pair at 13 weeks that the male twin’s amniotic sac had ruptured and wasn’t able to be repaired. Confronted with the risk of losing both twins, Grammer and Walsh chose to save their daughter Faith’s life.
While speaking with Us, Grammer said that the birth of their son Gabriel in 2014 had a healing effect.
“It actually made us stronger in a lot of ways,” he said. “Kayte went through a lot. We can cry buckets over that day, but we have the blessing of knowing that [our son] Gabriel came [next].”
Grammer gushed over Walsh during a 2018 interview with Closer magazine, saying she “has a pristine and extraordinary ability to love. She loves being pregnant and being a mom.”
He said there are benefits to being an older parent.
“When you reach a certain age, you don’t worry about your career the same way,” he stated, noting that earlier in life “your kids get a little lost in the shuffle, and you end up regretting it.”
At the time, he mused that James was “walking, and talking, and eating all the time” and Gabriel, then 4, “is starting to figure out stuff. They discover things every day. It’s wonderful.”
