Vijay Deverakonda’s latest film, Kingdom, has gotten off to a decent start at the box office. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of Jersey fame, the Telugu movie hit the screens on July 31, 2025.

According to Sacnilk.com, the movie collected ₹15.50 crore at the box office on its opening day. Kingdom has surpassed The Family Star, which collected ₹5.75 crore on its first day. The movie starred Mrunal Thakur opposite Deverakonda.

Kingdom also went past the opening day figure of Khushi, the 2023 romantic drama featuring Deverakonda and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. However, Deverakonda’s latest release slightly fell short of the opening-day result of Liger, which released in 2022. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, Liger, which amassed ₹15.95 crore on its first day of theatrical release, eventually went on to become a box office disaster.

Kingdom is about a constable who sets out as an undercover spy to bring back his long lost brother. During his pursuit, he faces daunting challenges.

Deverakonda was eyeing a comeback with Kingdom, after his previous outings — The Family Star and Khushi — performed underwhelmingly at the box office. However, his latest release has opened to mixed reviews.

The Hindu review of the movie said, “Unlike many half-baked franchise-minded action dramas, Kingdom gives us a fairly complete arc while still laying the groundwork for a sequel. Despite a slightly uneven and unconvincing latter half about the hero and his crown, the film scores with its emotional ambition, immersive craft, and a striking Vijay Deverakonda performance that reminds you why he matters. If only it had held its nerve till the very end, this could have been a knockout.”
