It’s been more than 15 years since MTV viewers were introduced to Whitney Purvis and ex Weston Gosa on a 2009 episode of 16 and Pregnant.
Purvis and Gosa welcomed their son, Weston Jr., in April 2009. (Purvis and Gosa had an on and off relationship until splitting in 2014.)
On the show, Purvis introduced her then-boyfriend as “great” and revealed that she lost her virginity to him.
“I hope to live happily ever after with Weston and have a big house and a big family of our own,” Purvis said on the show. “But we’re not ready for any of that yet.”
Years after their time on MTV, their lives took a heartbreaking turn when Purvis announced via social media in June 2025 that the teenager died at age 16.
“Life is so cruel and unfair. I just dont understand. Oh my baby is gone and I don’t know what to do with myself. He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true,” she wrote on Facebook. “How do you go on in life after losing a child? I’m in disbelief, this cannot be happening. I don’t want it to be real. I would do anything just to hold him. Words just can’t describe the pain I am feeling.”
Weston Jr.’s stepmom, Amy Gosa, shared that they tried to wake him up but the teenager was “not breathing.”
“We attempted CPR and called an ambulance. The paramedics attempted it as well and took him to the hospital in Gordon County where he was pronounced dead,” Amy shared in her own Facebook post. “He had several health issues as well as diabetes. We are completely heartbroken and in shock. It was so unexpected.”

Purvis’ Pregnancy
Gosa lived with Purvis and her grandmother during her pregnancy with Weston Jr., which was shown on 16 and Pregnant. They were together for “less than a year” before she got pregnant with their first son.
“The truth is, having a baby is more than I can handle at my age, so I have to rely on Weston for a lot,” Purvis said of her then-boyfriend on the show.
Giving Birth
Purvis welcomed Weston Jr. on prom night and had to have a C-section after labor complications.
“I spent the night in the hospital, and they gave me Pitocin to induce my labor. The contractions were the worst pain I’ve ever felt,” Purvis said during the episode. “Things got even scarier when they said my baby wasn’t getting enough oxygen. So I had to have a C-section. And I don’t remember much after that. When it was over, my baby was perfect.”
Their 1st Split
Purvis and Gosa split in 2011, two years after welcoming Weston Jr.
A Reconciliation — And Baby No. 2
After getting back together, Purvis and Gosa welcomed their second son, River, in 2014.
The Breakup
A few months after River’s birth, the former couple split for good.
A Heartbreaking Loss
Purvis confirmed the death of her and Gosa’s eldest son, Weston Jr., in June 2025. “This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston has passed away,” she wrote via Instagram of her 16-year-old child.
“I love you so much, Weston Owen Gosa. God, I love you so much,” Purvis added. “You are my heart. I was so proud of the young man you were becoming. I just can’t go on without you. Rest in Peace, my angel. You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.”
Weston Jr.’s stepmom, Amy, also paid tribute to “the most amazing son I could have asked for” after his death. She called him “brilliant, smart and funny” via Facebook. Amy noted that Weston Jr. had “several health issues as well as diabetes” before his “unexpected” passing.
Not-Friendly Exes
When Weston Jr. was put to rest, Purvis was not in attendance, claiming that Gosa blocked her from attending the funeral.

“I’m gonna stand up for myself this time,” Purvis wrote via Facebook in June 2025. “Just to clear up some things [that] happened over the weekend, my son’s funeral was this past Saturday. My son’s father told me it was at 4. … You would think with little Weston dying that we could put our differences aside right? Nope. It always has to be drama. You had to be on a list to get into the funeral. Guess who wasn’t on the list? Me and all my friends and family were not allowed to come in.”
She alleged that Gosa told her the incorrect time and therefore she was two hours late. Gosa, meanwhile, told TMZ that he allegedly called Purvis to invite her to the funeral and specified the viewing was between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with the service directly after.
Tragedy Strikes Again
Us Weekly confirmed in July 2025 that Purvis was arrested for involuntary manslaughter, which TMZ reported is related to allegedly distributing a drug called tranq. The drug is a mix of fentanyl and xylazine. Purvis was booked on July 7 and faces charges including possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
