A high-level meeting of government policy think-tank NITI Aayog began in the national capital on Saturday morning. The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, comprises a day-long session scheduled from 10 AM to 4 PM. The meeting brings together state and UT Chief Ministers, besides their respective Lieutenant Governors. The Modi administration’s ’Viksit Bharat @ 2047’ (Developed India by 2047) vision is set to take centre stage in the scheduled discussions.
In the meeting, a number of recommendations from the fourth National Conference of Chief Secretaries, held in December last year, are set to be discussed.
Besides, six crucial strategic areas will also be taken up for discussions.
NITI Aayog Meeting May 24 | 6 strategic areas for inclusive and sustainable growth
Here’s a summary of the six areas:
- Establishing manufacturing units in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to decentralise industrial development and boost local economies
- Promoting service-sector-based manufacturing hubs in smaller cities to tap into rising urbanisation and skill pools
- Expanding MSME and informal employment opportunities in rural non-farm sectors, creating alternatives to traditional agriculture-based livelihoods
- Enhancing informal job prospects in urban MSMEs, especially in growing sectors with high employment elasticity
- Exploring opportunities in the green economy, with a focus on renewable energy as a driver of jobs and sustainability
- Strengthening the circular economy, by promoting sustainable production and consumption patterns for long-term ecological balance
