HBO Max has released the first trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, offering a glimpse into the next chapter of DC Studios’ offbeat antihero saga. The new season premieres on August 21, continuing the story of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, played by John Cena.

The trailer was unveiled during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where creator James Gunn appeared alongside Cena and returning cast members Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Steve Agee. New additions to the cast include Frank Grillo, Tim Meadows, and Sol Rodriguez.

Season 2 finds Peacemaker navigating what appears to be an ideal world, on the surface. However, the official logline hints at deeper turmoil: “a confrontation with the ghosts of his past — and a reckoning that could change his future forever.”

Gunn, who wrote all eight episodes and directed three, including the premiere, continues to steer the series as one of the key pillars of the reimagined DC Universe under his leadership. Season one of Peacemaker, spun off from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad (2021), earned critical acclaim for its mix of sharp satire, and intense action.

Returning to the ensemble are Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Stroma as Vigilante, and Agee as John Economos. Robert Patrick also reprises his role as Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s father, suggesting unresolved tensions will play a role in the new episodes.
