Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has sustained serious injuries after being involved in a car accident.

“On the evening of August 30, 2025, in New Hampshire, Mayor Giuliani was involved in a motor vehicle accident,” the statement shared via Giuliani’s official Instagram read on Sunday, August 31. “Prior to the incident, he was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident. Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered assistance and contacted 911. He remained on scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety.”

The statement continued, “Following this, while traveling on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was struck from behind at high speed. He was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.”

The message stated that Giuliani’s “business partner and medical provider were promptly contacted and arrived at the hospital to oversee his care.”

“At this time, no further updates are available,” the statement concluded. “This is the only statement authorized by Mayor Giuliani.”

The statement was signed by Michael Ragusa, the “head of Mayor Giuliani’s security.” Ragusa, who jointly uploaded the post with Giuliani, 81, added another message in the caption.

“@therudygiuliani was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident in New Hampshire on August 30th. After assisting a domestic violence victim and ensuring police arrived, he was struck from behind while driving on the highway. He sustained multiple injuries but is in good spirits and recovering tremendously,” the caption read. “We thank everyone for their continued prayers and support. ❤️🙏.”

Ragusa went on to share that Giuliani, who served as the mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001, is “in great spirits.” He told The New York Post on Sunday that Giuliani will remain in the hospital for two to three more days before wearing a brace. “He’s a beast. He survived 9/11,” Ragusa added, referring to Giuliani’s time as mayor during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Maria Ryan, a nurse practitioner and Giuliani’s business partner, is reportedly helping with overseeing his care. She told the outlet, “He’s getting further tests and stabilization of his injuries.”

Giuliani’s son, Andrew, added, “Thank Goodness he’s doing OK.” (Giuliani and ex-wife Donna Hanover welcomed Andrew and daughter Caroline in 1986 and 1989, respectively.) “Fractured vertebrae. More to come,” Andrew told the outlet. “Please keep him in your prayers.”
