Sam Trammell — like the rest of Us — isn’t giving up on the hopes of a True Blood reunion.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. There should be. I feel like there should be a reunion,” Trammell, 56, exclusively told Us Weekly on Wednesday, July 16, while attending Lifetime’s Summer Soiree at Calabra Rooftop Restaurant & Bar at Santa Monica Proper Hotel.
“There’s always – there’s been talk,” he continued. “There was talk of a Broadway production, [but] that didn’t happen. There was talk, so we’ll see — it keeps coming around.”
He continued, “But I feel like there’s kind of a renewed interest and energy. I run into a lot of people, like today, somebody who was watching the series for the eighth time.”
Trammell played shapeshifter Sam Merlotte in the hit HBO series, who has the ability to transform into an animal at will. When viewers met Trammell’s Sam, he was the owner of Merlotte’s Bar and Grill in fictional Bon Temps, Louisiana. Trammell’s character later becomes the mayor of Bon Temps.
When asked if he would be open to reprising his role, Trammell didn’t hesitate.
“Oh sure, of course,” he responded. “I like working with Alan Ball and, I mean, it was just such a great experience. Of course, I’d absolutely be interested.”
He added, “Keep your fingers crossed! Yeah, we need some energy.”
While Trammell continues to hope for a reunion or revival in the near future, he told Us he still keeps in touch with some of his former True Blood castmates.
“I do. I do. I saw Chris Bauer — “Andy Bellefleur” — recently,” he dished. “And yeah, I’m in touch with Stephen Moyer and Anna [Paquin]. And yeah, they’re, they’re all — everybody’s good.”
Trammell also dished on his latest role on The Girl Who Survived, a thriller based on a true story.
“You’re gonna be on the edge of your seat,” he told Us of the project. “It takes place in the 80s in Los Angeles and it’s about a father-daughter relationship – but there’s a serial killer involved.”
He teased, “I don’t want to say too much, but it really paints a beautiful portrait of the era and the time. And you really see this, you know, this rapport between the father and daughter that’s really beautiful.”
Trammell plays Alina Thompson’s (Brielle Robillard) father, who he described as an “involved” parent who has “a great relationship with his daughter and with his wife.”
“But there’s also, you know, sort of boundary issues,” he continued. “And you look at parenting, you know, at that time — which was, you know, parenting is always changing — and kind of dealing with the challenges you have when you have a high school kid — the give and take, push and pull and the love and frustration and all that. And dealing with, you know, big, big issues — life and death issues.”
