Sarah Michelle Gellar Shuts Down Jennifer Love Hewitt Feud Rumors

Sarah Michelle Gellar has nothing but love for Jennifer Love Hewitt.

After sharing several photos from the Los Angeles premiere of the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot via Instagram on Wednesday, July 16, Gellar, 48, publicly responded to those who asked why she didn’t pose on the red carpet with Hewitt, 46.

“For everyone asking — I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt, who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the after-party,” Gellar wrote in a comment on her Instagram post.

She continued, “If you have ever been to one of these, it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately, some things happen only in real life and not online.”

Gellar, who starred in 1997’s IKWYDLS as Helen Shivers, attended the premiere on Monday, July 14, to support husband Freddie Prinze Jr., who is reprising his role as Ray Bronson from the original film in the reboot. Hewitt is also reprising her role as Julie James.

Gellar, who wore an Oscar de la Renta strapless butterfly-embroidered mini dress and orange heels, posed for several photos with Prinze, 49, who sported a navy blue suit. She was also photographed with IKYWDLS reboot star Madelyn Cline, former Buffy the Vampire Slayer costar Seth Green and IKYWDLS reboot director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

“What a night!!! Still can’t believe …… years later (no need to date myself) I got to walk the red carpet at another premiere of @ikwydlsmovie,” Gellar captioned her Instagram post. “Still starring the most handsome man I know @realfreddieprinze, but this time directed by my best friend @jennkaytin and written by Jenn and @samlansky I love this movie sooooo much and this cast!! Now for the important thank you’s @justinemarjan @kmannmakeup @jamielevin_ @taraswennen @oscardelarenta @fernandogarciam1205 @margosiegelpr @lesilla @effyjewelry @guitam_jewelry @lateliernawbar @selimmouzannar for this look I’ll never forget.”

While Gellar’s lack of photos led to speculation of a rift between her and Hewitt, it’s not the first time that either actress has shut down feud rumors. Back in December 2024, Gellar addressed a viral video in which fans believed she snubbed Hewitt with her reaction to the Café star appearing in the reboot.

“I have nothing to do with that,” Gellar told Extra at the time, throwing her hands in the air and walking away.

Gellar later clarified in an Instagram Story that she made the face after she realized there was a non-disclosure agreement for the film and knew she shouldn’t discuss casting.

“Aspiring actors please note: this deer in the headlights reaction is perfect for when you are excited to see so many old friends in one project but have already stupidly forgotten what NDA means once this month,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, that same month, Hewitt addressed rumors that she feuded with Gellar on set of the original IKWYDLS and demanded to have Gellar’s character killed off.

“I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me,” she said on Tommy DiDario’s “I’ve Never Said This Before” podcast. “All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything. And I root for her and Freddie. I think it’s the cutest thing in the world that they’ve been married for 100 years and have kids. It’s, like, adorable. So it’s just been really funny to see all of this stuff.”
