Shep Rose weighed in on former Southern Charm costar Kathryn Dennis’ recent social media video after she seemingly slammed newcomer Salley Carson for allegedly copying her look.
“I was told about it. I watched it. I didn’t like what I saw,” Shep, 44, told Decider in an interview published on Tuesday, July 29, after seeing Kathryn, 33, go off on one of his current costars in an Instagram Story that has since been deleted.
Shep confessed, “It looked like she wasn’t in a good state of mind. I can’t speak to that though, you know, I wasn’t there.”
Earlier this month, Kathryn posted two videos that were seemingly directed at Salley, who joined the Bravo cast during season 10. (Kathryn, for her part, exited the reality show in January 2023 after eight seasons.)
“I heard on the next season that someone buys the same car, dyes their hair the same color as me, of course, the OG. And then it’s because they tried to put the E before the Y,” Kathryn said in the video, according to Decider, referring to how Salley spells her name. “Oops, did I just accidentally bust your arc for Season 11, which is, I think, 2.5, a.k.a you’re trying to be my second season, which is super lame, but also kind of weird.”
Kathryn appeared to throw another jab at Salley, who previously competed on season 26 of The Bachelor, with her second video.
“And she sells seashells by the seashore, LOL,” Kathryn said in the cryptic upload, according to the outlet. “Tortured poet, babe, tortured Edgar [Allan Poe]. Bro, this is not broccolini. This is the O of the storm, baby. Unfold. And say Bravo, the opera sang the name, the fake one. Gosh, I’m sorry, it’s you.”
Shep, for his part, expressed concern over Kathryn’s messages, telling Decider, “I’m not quite sure I followed what her line of thinking [was], but I did detect Salley was implicated.”
He revealed, “I don’t understand the connection all that much. I don’t know if Salley really even knows Kathryn, honestly, or how Kathryn knows anything about Salley. It’s news to me.”
Shep pointed out that Kathryn has been through a lot over the past few years, including her custody battle with ex Thomas Ravenel, who exited Southern Charm in 2018.
The exes share daughter Kensie, 11, and son Saint, 9, and have publicly feuded on and off since their 2016 split. Thomas, 62, received sole custody of the kids in February 2023, but Kathryn was allowed visitation rights every other weekend.
Last year, Kathryn once again made headlines when she was arrested in May 2024 for reportedly driving under the influence. Kathryn was set to appear in court in June 2024 after she was involved in a three-car collision in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Her attorney, however, requested a continuance and jury trial — and details of the outcome haven’t been reported.
Amid all her highs and lows, Shep told Decider, “Man, I wish her the best. It’s so sad sometimes — I’m sure it is, I can’t speak from experience — when you’re in a custody situation. I just can’t imagine the anguish that occurs. So, I feel for her.”
While Kathryn’s actions raised eyebrows with fans and her former Southern Charm castmates it doesn’t appear that they’ll be addressed on the show. Shep, however, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday that the upcoming season 11 will focus a lot on the “deep-seated relationships” and “deep-seated differences” he and his castmates have.

Shep teased that a lot of the season will show Craig Conover’s journey after his and Paige DeSorbo’s breakup. (Paige, 32, announced their split in December 2024 after three years together.)
“I’m not going to speak for him, but he is coming off that breakup — very public breakup — [so] get ready,” Shep told Us of Craig’s story arc. “I really think it’s going to be a fantastic season.”
Us Weekly reached out to Kathryn’s attorney for comment.
