Tata Communications announced strategic collaboration with Cisco to work jointly on eSIM and IoT connectivity services across the global enterprises. After the announcement, at closing, the stock prices of Tata Communications were trading at Rs 1549 per share. On September 8, the stock opened at Rs 1545 and hit an intra day high at Rs 1561. Why TATA Communications and Cisco collaborated?

The strategic partnership announced aims to "reshape the future of how businesses connect, manage, and scale their connected devices around the world". The focus is on addressing the challenges faced in managing large fleets of connecting devices which inludes fragmented SIM hardware, complex device provisioning, and a lack of interoperability between different networks and technologies. These challenges are said to slow down rollouts, increase costs, and limit flexibility, making it difficult for organisations to scale their IoT initiatives.

Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVE said: “The continuous evolution of eSIM technologies is generating a transformative shift in the way enterprises connect and manage their IoT devices."

The collaboration is said to embed Tata Communications MOVE (an eSIM orchestration) into Cisco’s IoT control center, a device management platform cloud offering which will enable the enterprises to:

1)Seamlessly activate and manage devices across SIM providers, private and public networks and eSIM standards

2)Accelerate time-to-market through a frictionless, unified connectivity experience

3)Gain deep visibility and control across all layers of IoT deployment

4)Reduce integration efforts and avoid vendor lock-ins

The collaboration is expected to significantly benefit industries like transportation, logistics, and manufacturing, where reliable IoT connectivity is critical.

“As enterprises need greater simplicity, automation and scalability to effectively manage increasingly complex use cases, we see eSIM as a foundational technology.", said  Masum Mir, SVP and GM, Cisco Provider Mobility.
