TikTok comedian Steve Bridges has died at age 41, his wife, Chelsey, confirmed in a video posted to Steve’s Instagram account on Friday, October 17.

Chelsey told followers that she found the comic dead on their couch on Wednesday, October 15, and that he died “peacefully in his sleep.”

“Who you saw online was just the characters that he created,” she said. “He was so talented because he was the opposite of all of them.”

“He was the most attentive father, and the best, the best husband,” she continued. “And the greatest, sweetest man. And thanks to you, internet, he’s been able to live his dream of making people laugh. I am so thankful that he got to do that.”

Steve and Chelsey were married for 16 years and shared three children, a 14-year-old daughter and 10-year-old twin boys. The Peoria Police Department told TMZ they believe he died from natural causes.

Chelsey was a frequent guest on Steve’s social media channels, where he rose to fame thanks to his POV skits, parodying common everyday people and situations. His characters ranged from a solar panel salesman to a child at a public pool. Between TikTok and Instagram, he had more than 2 million followers.

Chelsey added that Steve had been working on his diet and fitness because three of his family members had died young. His grandmother died in her sleep at age 52, while his father and grandfather both died in their 40s.

“I’m not going to tell my children that they can’t grieve online,” Chelsey continued. “I will probably grieve online too. This is life now. Please never take it for granted and try to live your dreams every day. Love your family and take care of yourself.”

“This is one of the worst announcements I could ever have to make … our brother from another mother Steve Bridges has passed away,” friend and filmmaker Eric Mathis said in a statement to the Daily Mail. “Steve was an incredible talent beloved by millions of fans across the world, he was part of our tight knit film family, he was a husband and a father to 3 young kids. At 41, he is gone way too soon.”

The statement continued, “Everyone who had the pleasure, the absolute pleasure of meeting Steve, they all loved him. He was so kind, so genuine, so passionate about his art and infectious in his many amazing traits.”

A friend has set up a GoFundMe page to help Steve’s family. It has raised more than $28,000 as of Friday afternoon.

“He leaves behind a legacy of making people laugh, as well as a family that could use the support of the community during this difficult time,” the page reads. “If Steve ever brought joy to your life, please give if you can to assist his wife and three kids with expenses. If you are unable to give at this time, go leave a comment on one of his videos, we cannot say enough how much the kind words from his community mean to us.”
