Troian Bellisario and Husband Patrick J. Adams' Relationship Timeline

Troian Bellisario and Patrick J. Adams found their fairy-tale ending after meeting on set in 2009 — but it wasn't always smooth sailing for the pair. "Troian broke up with me, and I didn't want to break up," Adams revealed to PopSugar in January 2012, referring to their 2011 split. "The next day, completely un-ironically, I got an audition for her show, for a very small part on her show. A part that, at that point in my career, I would not have typically gone out for, because it was like, one day of work, on Pretty Little Liars." Luckily, his dedication paid off and the couple got back together shortly after. Us Weekly confirmed in January 2014 that the pair got engaged. The duo met on set and became close friends, they started dating one year later.

"We did a play together in L.A. called Equivocation. She was cast for the part of my romantic interest. We met and that was it," Adams told Her World in March 2013.

After breaking up after one year of dating, Adams made a small guest appearance on a 2011 episode of Pretty Little Liars in order to win Bellisario back. Although their characters didn't share any screen time together, the plan worked and they got back together.

"I wormed my way back in," Adams joked during an interview with PopSugar in January 2012.

The California native joined Adams at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he was nominated for his role in Suits.

"It's kind of our first [big event]," Bellisario told Us at the January 2012 event.

The Canada native added at the time, "It's just such a big event and I'm not doing anything like this without her. Are you kidding me? She's my support system. We were both excited to come and do something big and crazy like this.""

Us confirmed in February 2014 that the pair were officially engaged.

Bellisario opened up to Us about how little changed in their relationship since they got engaged.

"It's not any different. It's bizarre. It's not any different," the actress told Us in June 2014. "I'm still loving all of it."

The Consent star also shared what date nights look like for the couple while filming their respective shows.

"We live in different cities so it's Skyping," she told Us.

Bellisario guest starred on Suits alongside Adams.  

Us confirmed that the couple tied the knot in a romantic wedding ceremony in Southern California in December 2016. The wedding had a camping theme, which was part of a three-day celebration titled Fort Day after the pair's personal holiday.

The Stumptown actress celebrated Adams' directing an episode of Suits with a meaningful message.

"Even though this is your 4th time directing an episode of #suits I am still constantly blown away by your ease and your abilities both on and off screen," she wrote via Instagram in July 2017.

She added: "I know, from experience, that working with you as an actor and director is a true gift. Your ability to collaborate and create under immense pressure is astounding. You're an inspiration to me as a director."

The twosome attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in London and even offered fans a look on social media.

“Weddings are a joyous occasion. But today was just off the charts amazing," Bellisario captioned a post via Instagram in May 2018. "Congratulations Meghan and Harry. I am so grateful I got to witness your love today. There are many happy years to come.”

Us confirmed that the duo were expecting their first child.

“The world just got 8lbs heavier. Thank you to everyone who fought for and protected our privacy during this incredible and beautiful time in our lives,” Adams wrote on Instagram in October 2018. “Everyone is happy and healthy and loving every moment of this. I could not be more excited to bring a baby girl into this world at this moment. We will raise her to be powerful, to always speak her mind and heart and to live without fear. It’s a brand new day and a brave new world and they are both beautiful.”

"Watching you become a mother this year has been a lesson in radical love, bottomless strength and unequivocal grace," Adams captioned a Mother's Day dedication to his wife in May 2019. "Thank you for showing us both the path forward and keeping our little family happy, healthy and sun kissed. Always and in all ways. Happy Mama’s Day."

For Mother’s Day, Adams took to Instagram to celebrate his wife’s parenting skills, writing that watching her “has been a lesson in the value of patience, consistency, consciousness, humor, kindness and boundless curiosity.”

"The place you hold for our daughter is so sacred. She is safest in your arms, fiercely protected by your heart, and always laughs hardest at your jokes (always, damnit)," Bellisario started out a Father's Day post via Instagram in June 2020.

She continued: "Before I knew I was pregnant, you dreamed of her, before we knew she would be born female, you asked for a daughter. You and Aurora have a connection that is so solidly woven all I can do is stand back and watch in gratitude. She couldn’t have picked a better Papa."

“You make every room you walk into light up, every face you meet smile and every heart you come across open wide,” Adams wrote via Instagram in honor of Bellisario's 35th birthday. “We’ve walked a lot of roads together and I’m grateful for every single one of them.”

The NCIS actress took to social media to honor her husband on their fourth wedding anniversary.

"Four years ago we said yes, and it changed everything. Thank you for walking through this wilderness @halfadams with me. As long as I hold your hand I know anything is possible," she wrote via Instagram in December 2020.

The pair announced that they had secretly welcomed their daughter Elliot in May 2021, and the birth came with a one-of-a-kind story. Adams explained how Bellisario was well along when they got to the hospital parking garage.  

“She is still on all fours, butt facing the windshield,” he recalled during a June 2021 episode of Katie Lowe’s “Katie’s Crib” podcast. "Her butt's at my head level, so I just go and pull down her pants, and [the baby's] head is right there.”

The actor ended up delivering his daughter right there in their car.

“[It] all took place in the span of about three minutes," he added.

“That’s it. Right there was where our daughter was born,” Bellisario captioned a photo of her standing in a parking garage with her husband and then-1-month-old daughter, Elliot, before joking, “All that matters is that she is here and healthy, I somehow survived and @halfadams is not a fainter.”

The Where You’d Go, Bernadette actress shared a sweet 40th birthday tribute to her husband, gushing via Instagram that he “changed everything in my little corner of the universe.” She added, “You are my best friend, the love of my life, the father of our two beautiful girls. Nothing compares to you.”

“That feeling when you’re going through old photos and you’re stopped in your tracks by a picture of your wife and you’re flooded with gratitude and your breath is gone and your heart leaps,” Adams wrote via Instagram alongside a sweet throwback snap. “Love that moment.”

"Last night was my baby's @halfadams broadway debut. And It was every bit as magical as I hoped," the actress gushed via Instagram after the opening night of Broadway's Take Me Out. "Every single person in this cast KNOCKED IT OUT IF THE PARK (Come on i had to do one baseball pun.) but seriously Get your butts to @2stnyc to see #takemeoutbroadway this is a freaking great show."

Bellisario paid tribute to her husband on his 41st birthday. "The miracle of this universe (for me and my little corner of it) is that you were born and I was born within the same epoch. And somehow though there were many miles between us we found each other," Bellisario wrote via Instagram. "And because we found each other two of the most precious souls could exist. The universe is chaos. You (for me) give it order. Happy birthday my love. Thanks for making this place make sense."

Adams shared a sweet selfie with Bellisario to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Bellisario posted a series of photos with Adams and their two daughters on Father’s Day.

“Most days are absolute chaos but you somehow make it all make sense,” she wrote, in part.

The pair were hand in hand as they attended the Golden Globes together.

Adams showed off his love for Bellisario with a lengthy Instagram caption on her birthday.

“If you ever get the chance I highly recommend you find a best friend, someone who lights up every room, someone who lifts up anyone and everyone who needs a hand, someone who aims to always leave things better than when she found them, someone who can make you laugh so hard you cry and cry so hard you laugh,” he wrote. “Someone who sees right through your game and isn’t afraid to call you on it. Someone who operates with wonder and curiosity and fierce commitment to growing beyond anything that might try to confine her.”

Adams took to Instagram on Bellisario’s 40th birthday to share several photos of his wife, including a snap of the actress lounging by a pool on her stomach while completely nude. 

“I don’t know how you do it all or how I got so lucky to do it with you but I’ll take every damn drop I can get,” he captioned the post. “Happy birthday @sleepinthegardn - you are the gift that literally never stops giving and everyone lucky enough to know you feels it. You always move forward, no stone unturned, no sleep ‘til Brooklyn, no rest for the wicked, no ifs, ands or buts, no harm, no foul, no guts, no glory. All heart. All hustle. All love. Always and in all ways.”
