Uttarakhand Rains: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Wednesday, August 6 informed that roads on the NH-34 highway between Uttarkashi and Gangotri have been damaged due to continuous heavy rains in Uttarakhand. A 100-metre stretch was washed away at Papadgad and the road was blocked due to heavy debris near Dharali. The BRO is working to repair the damage despite continued rains and difficult conditions.

Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a disaster management meeting at the state Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to assess the cloudburst and flash floods at Dharali in Uttarkashi.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone and inquired about the recent natural disaster in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district. According to the official release, the PM also reviewed the updated status of relief and rescue operations.

The Chief Minister told the PM Modi that the state government is engaged in relief and rescue operations with full readiness. Continuous heavy rains have caused difficulties in some areas, but all concerned agencies are working in coordination to provide quick relief to the affected people.

Prime Minister assured all possible assistance from the Central Government.

Dhami also visited the Joshiyada helipad in Uttarkashi and assessed the areas affected by the recent cloudburst. Dhami also conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas to review the damage and ongoing relief efforts.

Rescue and relief operations are underway with full support from the state and central governments.

The Uttarakhand CM surveyed an ongoing high-intensity rescue operation involving the Indian Army, ITBP, SDRF, NDRF, and local residents, where 130 people have already been saved.

"All our agencies, including the Indian Army, ITBP, SDRF, NDRF and locals, are doing the rescue work. 130 people were rescued yesterday. A search and rescue operation is underway. Due to damage to the roads and a bridge, it has become difficult to reach the spot. The Disaster Operations Station in Dehradun is working 24 hours to provide all possible assistance. We are putting in efforts to rescue everyone safely. I want to thank PM Modi for providing every possible assistance. PM Modi took the details of the rescue operation today as well...," he said.
