There are three national holidays in the country- Independence Day (August 15), Republic Day (January 26), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2). They all celebrated across the nation.

Stock market holiday August 2025: The stock markets will remain shut tomorrow, August 15, on the occasion of Independence Day. India will be celebrating its 79th Independence Day on Friday. 

Apart from stock markets, banks and schools will also be closed on this day.

Stock market on August 15

For the day, there will be no trading in equity, derivatives, securities lending or borrowing, currency derivatives, or electronic gold receipts.

The NSE holiday calendar shows that August has two planned market holidays: August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi and August 15 for Independence Day.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also be shut on August 15 for both the morning and the evening sessions.

Bank holiday on Independence Day

On this auspicious occasion, the banks will also observe holiday in all cities as it is a national holiday.

School holiday on August 15

Yes, all schools will also be closed in India for the Independence Day holiday. In schools, the celebrations are usually done a day or two days before.

Holiday for Offices and Businesses
Apart from schools and colleges, the majority of government and private offices will also be closed on August 15

Essential services
However, essential services like hospitals, emergency wards, and public safety units will be available as usual. 

Public transport
The public transport, like buses and, metro, will be operational as usual.
