Hulu has a lot of comedy movies to choose from in September, but sometimes the classics are simply too good to pass up.
This month, There’s Something About Mary and O Brother, Where Art Thou? are bringing the laughs to the streamer.
Sure, they’re old movies. But they’re also hilarious and still worth revisiting for anyone who loves laughing uncontrollably.
Both of those films are among the Watch With Us team’s picks for the must-see comedy movies on Hulu right now.

It’s kind of amazing how far There’s Something About Mary pushed the envelope in 1998, because it’s still pretty wild in 2025. Cameron Diaz stars as Mary Jensen, and no matter what she does, men fall hopelessly in love with her. Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller) has had a crush on Mary since high school, and he finally decides to look her up 13 years later.
Unfortunately for Ted, the private investigator he hired, Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), falls hard for Mary and starts dating her himself. Pat and Ted aren’t the only ones vying for Mary’s heart, as her unlikely suitors sabotage each other in their increasingly desperate bids to win her over.

When Joel and Ethan Coen were on their game, they made some incredible movies together. O Brother, Where Art Thou? was the Coen brothers’ reworking of The Odyssey set in the South in 1937. George Clooney leads the way as Ulysses Everett McGill, a convict who convinces his fellow prisoners, Pete Hogwallop (John Turturro) and Delmar O’Donnell (Tim Blake Nelson), to escape with him and reclaim a treasure.
The only treasure that Ulysses wants is his ex-wife, Penny Wharvey-McGill (Holly Hunter), and their three daughters. He has to win Penny back before she can marry another man. Luckily, Ulysses, Pete and Delmar are talented singes, and that goes a long way for them during their comedic misadventures.

TV performers Steve Carell and Tina Fey make a good couple on the big screen in Date Night, even if their characters’ marriage badly needs something fresh. That’s why their time out takes a turn when they impulsively pretend to be another couple to get a table at a crowded restaurant.

Do you know why The Proposal was the only Ryan Reynolds rom-com mentioned by name in Deadpool & Wolverine? For one thing, it was a Disney movie all along, and it was also a great on-screen pairing of Reynolds and rom-com queen Sandra Bullock.
Bullock plays Margaret Tate, a Canadian publisher with a deserved reputation for being overly bossy. When Margaret faces expulsion from the U.S. over a visa issue, she convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), to pretend to be engaged with her so she can get a sham green card marriage. But as they prepare for a fake wedding, Margaret and Andrew develop some very real feelings for each other.

In Idiocracy, Luke Wilson plays the smartest man on Earth — by default. Director and cowriter Mike Judge‘s satire has become closer and closer to reality over the last two decades. In 2005, Joe Bauers (Wilson) and a prostitute named Rita (Maya Rudolph) took part in a suspended animation experiment that went wrong. Subsequently, Joe and Rita woke up 500 years in the future, and time has not been kind to humanity’s collective intelligence.
Although Joe has an exceedingly average intellect by modern standards, he’s a genius compared to everyone else in the future. Even President Camacho (Terry Crews) didn’t score as highly as Joe, which is why the latter is given the impossible task of fixing humanity’s problems in a week. Unfortunately for Joe, the penalty for failure is death.

Jennifer Lawrence embraces R-rated comedy in No Hard Feelings, and it proves to be a good fit for her. Lawrence plays Maddie Barker, a desperate woman in her ’30s who is being paid to date Percy Becker (Andrew Barth Feldman), the college-age son of Laird (Matthew Broderick) and Allison Becker (Laura Benanti).
Percy isn’t in on this plan, and he doesn’t realize that his parents set this up to give him the confidence he’s been sorely lacking. He also has no experience with women at all, as Maddie’s attempts to throw herself at him go very badly. She needs Percy to give in to her charms to save her home and her car from repossession, but Maddie’s really going to need to work hard to seduce him.

Bullet Train is one of the few action comedies that equally excels at both parts of the equation. Brad Pitt stars as an assassin codenamed Ladybug who is rethinking his life choices. Ladybug’s assignment in Japan was supposed to be an easy job, and all he had to do was get on a high-speed bullet train and get off with a suitcase full of cash.
Much to Ladybug’s chagrin, the train is filled with other assassins who have their own agendas. Some of them want Ladybug dead. There’s a mysterious woman pulling the strings of these killers, and there’s nothing but trouble waiting for all of them at the end of the line.

Wes Anderson’s second film, Rushmore, is beloved for its eccentric performance by Jason Schwartzman and an uncommonly sensitive turn by Bill Murray. Schwartzman plays Max Fischer, a student at Rushmore Academy who’s great at extracurricular activities and little else. Regardless, Herman Blume (Murray) – the father of two students at Rushmore – takes a liking to Max, and they form an unusual friendship.
Herman knew that Max had a crush on one of Rushmore’s teachers, Rosemary Cross (Olivia Williams). That doesn’t stop him from developing his own feelings for Rosemary. When Max finds out, he practically transforms into a Looney Tunes character to get back at Herman.
Rushmore is streaming on Hulu.
