Carrie Bradshaw and Aidan Shaw weren’t endgame in Sex and the City — but things appear to be looking up for the fan-favorite couple.
Fans were originally introduced to the furniture designer (John Corbett) in season 3 when he started dating Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) following her split from Mr. Big (Chris Noth). The romance, however, took a turn when Carrie cheated on Aidan with her ex.
While Carrie and Aidan attempted to give their love another try six months later, their past issues prevented them from getting their happily ever after. Carrie ultimately married Big in the first Sex and the City movie, but her husband died in season 1 of the And Just Like That revival.

Carrie Bradshaw and Aidan Shaw weren't endgame in Sex and the City — but things appear to be looking up for the fan-favorite couple.

In season 4, Aidan returns to Carrie's life when he opens a bar with Steve. The twosome eventually give things another go. After moving in together, Aidan proposes to Carrie and she accepts.
Amid the major milestone, Carrie starts to feel suffocated by potential wedding plans. Her attempts to face her anxiety cause her to realize that she isn't ready for the next step.
Aidan, for his part, suggests they elope because he just wants to be married. Carrie realizes that her then-fiancé is still worried she might not be faithful which causes their second breakup.
During the second sequel film, which premiered in 2010, Carrie reconnects with Aidan after a chance meeting in Abu Dhabi. The former couple grab dinner which leads to an unexpected kiss. Carrie immediately tells Big about the incident — which inspires her husband to make some changes in their marriage. The twosome subsequently are able to work out their issues.
Aidan made his grand AJLT debut in a July 2023 episode — and invited Carrie to dinner on Valentine’s Day. However, Aidan felt conflicted when he realized Carrie was still living in her NYC brownstone from the OG series.
“When you said come back to your place, I thought you had a different place,” he said. “At the restaurant, I thought, ‘How great. This feels really great.’ We’re back where we started. But this is where we ended with that f—king wall I couldn't break through and those floors — remember the floors I redid? It's all bad. It's all in there.”
When Carrie pointed out that she wanted to make a new romance work, Aidan proclaimed that he could be ready to try again and they shared a smooch.
Carrie and Aidan’s relationship continued heating up throughout season 2 of AJLT, with Carrie even deciding to leave her rent-controlled apartment for a new place in Gramercy Park because Aidan refused to step foot inside her old abode.
In the season 2 finale, which dropped in August 2023, Aidan ultimately decided to put their moving plans on hold when he learned that his youngest son, Wyatt, was struggling with him being away. Aidan finally entered Carrie’s apartment — but only to explain that he couldn’t come back to the city for at least five years when Wyatt was “no longer a teenager.”
Despite Aidan’s departure, he insisted that he still loved Carrie, and she reciprocated. They sealed their conversation with a kiss and a night of love-making before he left town in a cab.
When season 3 of AJLT premiered in May 2025, Carrie gave Charlotte and Miranda an update on how she's adjusting to life in her new Gramercy Park home — with Aidan in Virginia. Carrie revealed that the couple were sending each other blank postcards back and forth while trying to limit communication as Aidan focuses on his kids.
"I'm a big girl in a big city with a big house to furnish," she explained. "I've got plenty to do up here while he figures stuff out down there. I mean, I have to wait six months for the fabric I ordered for the chaise, it's on backorder. And I love Aidan almost as much as I love that fabric. So you know, it's like my relationship is on backorder."
Charlotte quipped in response, "For five years?"
When Carrie’s garden was overrun with rats on season 3 of AJLT, she took the opportunity to ask Aidan for clarity on their arrangement. “I’m trying to give you the space to be fully there for Wyatt and the boys, but sometimes things happen and I want to tell you about them. You know, like the rats. I wrote this whole long text to you and I just, I felt like I couldn’t send it,” she told him.
Carrie admitted that she felt “lost” when it came to their expectations, and Aidan said he felt the same. “I gotta stay f***ing laser focused on the situation at home. But you can text me — little stuff, big stuff. Call me, if it’s important,” he added.
Carrie explained that she wanted to “look underneath” their relationship — which is something she didn’t do with her garden. Aidan reassured her that they were in a “rat-free zone.”
During a June 2025 episode of AJLT, Carrie told her friends that she wanted to “breeze over” to Aidan’s place “for a casual lunch” while visiting Virginia for a writer’s conference. “I don’t wanna stay, I don’t wanna make him feel like I’m invading his space or whatever,” she explained.
Carrie then got an unexpected call from Aidan’s ex-wife, Kathy, who asked if Carrie could find adderall for their son Wyatt because “there’s a nationwide shortage” and Carrie is “well-connected.” Carrie followed through — with the help of Charlotte’s mom squad — but when Carrie gave Aidan the bag of pills in Virginia, he seemed unaware of Kathy’s request.
In a subsequent episode, Kathy thanked Carrie for the favor while the blended family spent time together at Aidan's home. When she found out that Aidan doesn't approve of Wyatt taking medication, Carrie attempted to apologize — then admitted that Aidan was right for not wanting to be apart from his kids in their challenging time. She gave Aidan a key to their Gramercy Park home before heading back to NYC.
Following her disastrous visit to Virginia, Carrie opened up to Charlotte about how her and Aidan's relationship was progressing. "To be honest, it's kind of a relief to not be thinking about what I should be doing every day about it. It's out of my hands," Carrie admitted in a June 2025 episode.
When Charlotte teased that she would never be able to have that mindset, Carrie added, "I'm just being more realistic, less romantic." She assured Charlotte, however, that there was still plenty of romance.
"It's just living under the reality," Carrie continued. "We love each other very much, but he can't be my everyday fella right now, so I just have to give up the expectation of a big romantic, music swell resolution."
In a June 2025 episode, Aidan once again attempted to surprise Carrie in NYC. He tossed a rock outside her window but accidentally ended up smashing the glass — which he eventually viewed as a metaphor for him breaking the trust in their relationship by sleeping with his ex-wife, Kathy.
Aidan explained to Carrie that he and Kathy were both "upset" over an incident with their son Wyatt and "were just trying to comfort each other." Carrie admitted that she could "kind of understand." Confused by her response, Aidan reiterated that he was unfaithful even though he and Carrie "agreed to wait for each other."
"Well, I didn't agree to that," Carrie said. "[I agreed] that I would be here waiting until you could be with me. ... Sleeping with Kathy because you were upset, I understand. I'm just having a harder time understanding why we have not had this discussion until now."
Carrie assured Aidan that she didn't "want to sleep with other people," and the pair try to move forward.
Aidan returned to NYC for a visit in a July 2025 episode as Carrie continued to connect with her neighbor Duncan, a fellow writer. While chatting with Seema and Carrie's landscaper Adam at Charlotte's gallery opening, Aidan asked if they had any intel on the British author.
"You must have met the cat who lives under Carrie. What's he like?" Aidan wondered, to which Adam replied, "He's a meanie."
Seema agreed, adding, "Total meanie."
