Animal Kingdom’s corrupt and complex Cody family left a lasting impression on fans following its 2022 conclusion, many of whom still recite their motto: “May we all get what we want and never what we deserve.”
The TNT drama premiered in 2016 and followed a teenage Joshua “J” Cody (Finn Cole) after he moves in with his estranged family following the death of his mother, Julia. J soon learns that his grandmother, Smurf (Ellen Barkin), and uncles Pope (Shawn Hatosy), Craig (Ben Robson), Deran (Jake Weary) and Baz (Scott Speedman), aren’t your average California family.
The group is involved in some of Oceanside’s more unsavory activities, including drugs and robberies and J must decide whether to get on board or move out.
Throughout the six seasons it was on air, fans both rooted for the dysfunctional family and shook their heads in disapproval over their antics. In June 2025, Animal Kingdom got a second wind when it began streaming on Netflix, bringing the Codys back into the limelight.
