Barstool Sports personality Cody ‘Beef’ Franke has died at age 31.
“Barstool lost a member of our family this weekend. Just tragic news. You will never find a nicer more genuine person than Beef,” the company shared in a statement to social media on Monday, October 27. “It’s hard to even process it right now. Just another cruel reminder that tomorrow is never promised and to live each day to its fullest.”
Barstool also shared a longer statement, offering more details into the circumstances surrounding Franke’s death.
“We are beyond devastated to announce that our dear friend and beloved Barstool Sports colleague, Cody ‘Beef’ Franke, passed away from a sudden medical issue over the weekend,” the statement read, detailing the late social media star’s love of golf.
“He selflessly spent much of his life helping others improve and enjoy the game. Watching golf bring people happiness brought him happiness, and that infectious personality was felt by everyone who met him,” the statement continued. “He was universally known as the nicest guy in the world.”
Franke was the “head golf professional” for the “Fore Play” podcast, hosted by Barstool personalities Trent Ryan, Riggs Bozoian, Frankie Borrelli and Dan Rapaport.
“From his time as a PGA Professional to his time at Barstool Sports, Cody made so many people laugh, he made so many people smile and he simply made so many people better,” the statement continued. “Our heartfelt thoughts are with Cody’s entire family and loved ones.”
The company concluded, writing, “We’ll be removing our hats for Cody today and everyday. Rest in peace to the classiest man we knew.”
The “Fore Play” podcast shared the statement to their own social media account.
“We are beyond devastated to announce that our good friend and cherished Barstool Sports colleague, Cody “Beef” Franke, passed away from a sudden medical issue over the weekend,” they wrote.
The PGA Tour official Instagram shared their condolences in a comment as well.
“Beef was an incredible member of the golf community,” they wrote. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Several of the show’s hosts even posted their own tributes on Instagram.
“Absolutely heartbreaking,” Riggs wrote. “Been hard to process losing one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. Feeling heavily for Cody’s family today.”
Borrelli’s Instagram Story caption read, “Beef made everyone else’s life better. The nicest man I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. Impossible to process this heartbreaking news.”
Ryan, meanwhile, wrote that he was “just devastated” in his Instagram Story post.
Dan “Big Cat” Katz also addressed Franke’s death during Monday’s “The Yak” livestream. (He also confirmed that footage from Barstool’s first-ever Internet Invitational will be released with Franke’s inclusion shown.)
“Just a great dude to hang out with and really one of those guys you’ll remember forever because he was one of those ‘everyone’s friend’ guys,” he said. “This company is a weird place. A lot of people are at each other’s throats. Beef was one of those guys that was just friends with everyone and a great great dude. It’s really really sad.”
