There’s no Sex and the City with steamy onscreen romances — and that extends to Max’s And Just Like That spinoff.
Sex and the City wrapped in 2007 with main characters Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) finding their respective happily ever after with Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler) and Steve Brady (David Eigenberg). Upon And Just Like That’s season 1 premiere in December 2021, all three couples were still married — but things changed quickly.
Parker’s Carrie became a widow by the end of the first episode after Noth’s Big suffered a heart attack and died. (Noth’s exit and scrapped finale cameo came on the heels of the actor’s sexual misconduct scandal, which he has denied.) After grieving the loss of her beloved husband, Carrie was ready to step back into the dating scene during season 2. After brief flings with the likes of her podcast producer Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez) and software engineer George (Peter Hermann), Carrie reunites with ex-fiancé Aidan Shaw (John Corbett).
“I didn’t bring Aidan back to fail,” showrunner Michael Patrick King quipped to The New York Times in June 2023, seemingly teasing that Carrie and Aidan’s rekindled romance would be endgame.

Carrie married the financier at the end of the first feature-length Sex and the City movie. When And Just Like That picked up in December 2021, fans watched the couple managing lockdown for the coronavirus pandemic. Big ultimately died after a grueling Peloton workout in the AJLT season 1 pilot, leaving Carrie to navigate her heartbreaking grief for the remainder of the season.
Miranda's on-and-off romance with the bartender was one of our favorite ships on the OG series. However, she confessed in AJLT season 1 that the spark had gone out in her marriage, leading her to pursue a romantic relationship with Che. After Miranda and Che returned to NYC in season 2 following a brief West Coast jaunt, the lawyer and Steve were not on speaking terms despite living in the same house. Miranda even voluntarily slept on the couch to avoid awkward run-ins.
After exchanging flirty banter throughout season 1, Che and Miranda’s relationship turned physical when the comedian turned up to check on Carrie’s prognosis after surgery. While Carrie was snoozing, Miranda — who was caring for her friend — enjoyed a surprise tête-à-tête with Che. The twosome’s relationship reached new heights in season 2 with Miranda following Che to Los Angeles while they filmed a TV pilot. Miranda, however, ultimately left California early (and on her own) when Brady told her that his girlfriend, Luisa, had ended their relationship.
Che and Miranda ultimately pulled the plug on their relationship during the July 20, 2023, episode.
Jon Tenney portrayed Carrie’s first date since Big’s death after the pair matched on a dating app, which is also his first outing since losing his wife to ovarian cancer. While the drinks-fueled evening seemed to lighten the mood, they both ended up vomiting on their walk home.
Despite her disastrous date with teacher Peter, Carrie did not let the setback affect her hopes of moving on. In the season 1 finale, she exchanged a steamy kiss with her podcast producer, Franklyn, in the office elevator. Their relationship grew when season 2 returned in June 2023 as they entered into a friends-with-benefits arrangement after the podcast recording. Their connection fizzled after Carrie admitted that she wasn’t yet ready for anything serious.
Carrie’s connection with software engineer George is an enemies-to-lovers dream meet-cute. While Carrie was walking down the street, chatting on the phone with Seema about her own dating misadventures, she nearly ran into a bicycling stranger. After George went flying off his bike, he shouted at Carrie for getting in his way — and causing him to break his wrist. She insisted on taking him to urgent care, where they got to chatting and exchange contact details. The pair went on to hook up at George’s place before his business partner interrupts their evening with an urgent work deadline. Carrie proclaimed that George is actually “married” to his buddy and made an Irish exit.
Furniture designer Aidan was introduced during season 3 of Sex and the City, immediately charming Carrie after one of her many splits from Big. After an on-and-off romance, they got engaged but Carrie struggled to commit and even wore the diamond ring as a necklace instead. They eventually split and Aidan settled down with a woman named Kathy, with whom he shared three sons. The exes reunited in the second SATC movie, sharing a brief kiss despite their respective marriages. Aidan will get another chance to romance Carrie in And Just Like That season 2.
Miranda was shocked to learn in season 2 that Che is secretly married to Oliver Hudson’s character — and were still on good terms. Lyle, a California-based mixologist, explained that they never got around to legally getting divorced. He even helped Che move into her new apartment in Manhattan after her return from L.A., where he joined Che and Miranda in the bedroom for a threesome.
Charlotte’s friend Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker) is happily married to attorney Herbert Wexley (Christopher Jackson). The pair share three children and reside on the Upper East Side.
Dr. Nya Wallace (Karen Pittman), who plays Miranda’s Columbia University professor in season 1, was married to musician Andre Rashad Wallace (Leroy McClain) when And Just Like That debuted. After the pair navigated infertility struggles, Andre left on a world tour while Nya stayed home. They ultimately separated in season 2 when he confessed to nearly cheating on his spouse.
Seema quickly became Carrie’s go-to single friend, regaling the group with tales of her dating exploits and free-spirited sexual encounters. Seema then met Zed (William Abadie), a club promoter, on a night out and was instantly smitten. By season 2, she was even willing to skip the Met Gala to meet Zed’s grown son and ex-wife. The meeting turned messy when it came out that Zed was still cohabiting with his ex and Seema broke things off.
In the season 3 premiere, Miranda had a brief fling with a Canadian tourist played by Rosie O’Donnell. It was later revealed that Mary was actually a nun.
“I had a blast doing it, and that’s all I can say,” O’Donnell teased to Us Weekly exclusively months before the June 2025 premiere. “Everything else you’re gonna have to watch.”
Actress Dolly Wells plays Miranda’s love interest, a British producer for the BBC, in season 3.
“She is a person with her own foibles and insecurities, and we get to see that she’s not a perfect person by any stretch of the imagination,” Nixon told Variety in June 2025. “But she is wonderful in a very different way than Steve. Steve was a wonderful antidote to Miranda, and Joy is a wonderful antidote in a very different way.
Carrie moved into a new apartment on Gramercy Park during season 3, where her new downstairs neighbor was a successful British author (Jonathan Cake). After working on their respective novels together, the pair hooked up ahead of the two-part finale before Duncan returned to London at the end of his sublet.
