Corona News (June 2): Active cases surge; 28 deaths in India, check out state-wise update

The COVID-19 cases in India have reached 3,758 with 1,818 patients discharged, according to the Union Health Ministry data as on June 1, 2025 till 8 AM IST.

The country reported 28 deaths across multiple states since January 1, 2025.

According to the Health Ministry, in Delhi, three deaths were recorded, including one death--a 60-year-old female with acute intestinal obstruction post-laparotomy, where Covid-19 was an incidental finding. Gujarat recorded one death, with details still awaited.

Karnataka reported one fatality--a 70-year-old male who succumbed to acute cardiorespiratory arrest, acute encephalopathy with late-onset focal seizure, severe anaemia, thrombocytopenia, and comorbidities including diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN), and ischemic heart disease (IHD). His COVID-19 status awaits RT-PCR confirmation, as per the statement. In total, there were four death cases in the state.

Odisha

On Sunday (June 1), the Director of Public Health, Government of Odisha, Dr. Nilakantha Mishra, said that the number of active COVID-19 cases in the state has risen to 12, further adding that the patients had mild symptoms and were being treated in isolation.

Kerala

Kerala reported the highest cases. There are a total of 1,400 cases in the state. Seven COVID-related deaths reported in Kerala, as per the Health Ministry data.

Maharashtra

On Sunday, Maharashtra reported 65 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number since January 1 to 814. Pune has 31 of these, Mumbai 22, Thane nine, Kolhapur two, and Nagpur one. The health department reports that 300 of the 506 active cases in the state have recovered.

West Bengal

In the last 24 hours, West Bengal recorded 82 new coronavirus cases. With this, there are 287 active cases in the state. 

Gurugram

There are a total of 23 cases in Gurugram including four new cases were detected on Sunday.

Punjab

In Punjab, one death case was reported. Six active cases in the state and most of them are from Ludhiana. 

Delhi

As per the Health Ministry data, there are 436 active cases and 3 fatalities were reported in Delhi.
