While Sofia Vergara’s apparent relationship status with Tom Brady is up for speculation, one thing is for certain — the actress hopes to find love again one day.
Vergara announced her split from ex-husband Joe Manganiello in July 2023. (She was previously married to Joe Gonzalez from 1991 to 1993.)
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the pair wrote in a joint statement posted via Instagram at the time. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.” Manganiello filed for divorce first, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
After her divorce, Vergara dated Justin Saliman before the pair split up in January 2025. In July 2025, she sparked dating rumors with Brady after the pair were spotted sitting close together onboard the Luminara yacht during a star-studded sailing trip from Rome.
Since embracing her single status, the actress has been outspoken about what she hopes to find in her next romantic partner — and what she is definitely not interested in pursuing.

She doesn’t want to have more kids
In January 2024, Vergara told Spanish newspaper El País her marriage ended mostly because she didn’t want to have more children. “Well, I’m newly divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger,” she explained. “He wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
She continued, ”I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore. I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”
Vergara added that she would be open to dating someone who is also a parent. “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause, it’s the natural way of things. When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life. That’s what I have to do.”
Dating over 50 can be “hard”
In an interview with People in May 2024, Vergara admitted it can be “hard” to date once you’re over age 50.
“It’s already hard for a 50-something-year-old woman to find someone,” she explained. “I’m not going to be picky about, ‘Oh, he can only be a doctor. Oh, he can only be an astronaut.’ No, I mean, I’m not that picky.”
Being a celebrity can make relationships tough
In the same conversation with People, Vergara also noted that being famous can make it more difficult to find love.
“Everything gets so exaggerated. Everything sometimes gets not interpreted the right way. So life is already hard,” she said. “Having relationships is hard. Problems are hard. And then to see it out there and be completely changed, you want to be like, ‘What is going on?’ But you just get used to it. It comes with being famous, so you can’t complain that much.”
She wants to date someone “fun”
During an appearance on the Today show in May 2025, Vergara told Jenna Bush Hader exactly what she’s looking for in a partner.

“I want to say the basic stuff, like health and somebody that loves me,” she began. “And somebody tall, handsome. I want somebody that has as much money as me or more, because if not, it’s a nightmare. They end up resenting you.”
She also wants “somebody fun,” Vergara continued. “I need fun in my life.”
“I’ve been single now for a year and a half, and I kind of panicked once I got divorced,” she added. “I was like, ‘I’m 52, what’s gonna happen? Where am I going to find [someone]?’”
