Heavy rain in Delhi triggers waterlogging, flight delays at airport

2 hours ago 1

New Delhi witnessed heavy and continuous rainfall on Saturday morning, leading to severe waterlogging in several areas and disrupting normal life. Key stretches including Panchkuian Marg, Mathura Road, and the road outside Bharat Mandapam were submerged, slowing down vehicular movement across the city.

According to flight tracking platform Flightradar, operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were significantly impacted, with at least 182 departing flights delayed. Around 30 incoming flights also faced delays.

In an advisory on X, Delhi Airport attributed the disruptions to “inclement weather, including heavy rainfall, resulting in waterlogging near the airport.” Passengers were urged to plan travel accordingly, opt for the Delhi Metro where possible, and contact airlines directly for the latest flight updates.

Several carriers also issued alerts. IndiGo cautioned travellers about blocked roads and slow traffic, advising them to allow extra time, use alternate routes, and check flight status online before heading to the airport. SpiceJet warned that both departures and arrivals could be affected due to the downpour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms with rain for the day, with temperatures expected to range between 25°C and 33°C.
