India test captain Shubman Gill believes that winning his first Test in his new leadership role at Edgbaston, where the side had never won before, was more special for him. India registered a massive 336-run win in the second Test against England to level the five-match series 1-1.
Gill has been in great touch with the bat in the first two matches of the tour. In just four innings so far, he has accumulated 585 runs at an average of 146.25 and is the leading run-scorer in the series.
This is Gill's first win as Test captain, India's first-ever win at Edgbaston, and potentially India's first Test win in England in several years.
Shubman Gill is the talk of the town, not just because of winning the match, but because his vest is grabbing unwanted attention. So here is the thing…..
Gill was spotted in a black Nike vest when he came out of the dressing room to declare the second innings of the Indian team. He was captured on the cameras wearing a black Nike vest. This involved controversy as it was considered a violation of the rules of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Notably, Adidas is the official kit sponsor of the Indian cricket team, with an agreement with the BCCI that runs until March 2028. As per this deal, Adidas will sponsor India's men's, women's, and all age-group teams' cricket kits. Given this, Shubman Gill's appearance in a kit featuring another company's logo may potentially violate the terms of this agreement.
Shubman Gill's vest sparks controversy: Will BCCI take action?
As soon as Shubman Gill's photos and videos went viral, questions started being raised. While some people reacted humorously, others considered it a breach of BCCI's sponsorship rules. It's still unclear whether the BCCI will take action against Gill. A similar incident occurred in 2006-07 when Sourav Ganguly was penalized for wearing a Puma headband while Nike was the kit sponsor. Following that, the BCCI issued guidelines to players to avoid such attire, which could be seen as violating the rules.
