In a fresh legal battle over the vast estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, his two children from his marriage with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor have moved the Delhi High Court seeking their rightful share.
The siblings have filed a civil suit alleging that their stepmother, Priya Kapur--Sunjay’s third wife--tampered with his will in a bid to gain complete control over his assets, estimated at nearly Rs 30,000 crore, according to ANI.
Karisma Kapoor's children seek partition of estate
According to the petition, the plaintiffs (a daughter and minor son, represented through their mother as guardian) have sought partition of the estate, rendition of accounts, and a permanent injunction against Priya Kapur and other defendants.
They contend that they do not have complete knowledge of Sunjay Kapur’s assets and have accused Priya Kapur of concealing property details while presenting a suspicious will dated March 21, 2025, according to an ANI report.
Suspicion over contested will
Initially, Priya Kapur allegedly denied the existence of any will, claiming all assets were under the R K Family Trust. Later, she produced a will granting her sole control of Sunjay’s personal property--sparking accusations of forgery and manipulation.
The children argue that their father had repeatedly assured them of financial security, initiated business ventures in their names, and included them as beneficiaries of family trusts.
Family dispute intensifies
The case involves multiple parties: Priya Kapur and her minor son are listed as the first and second defendants, Sunjay’s mother as the third defendant, and a woman who has identified herself as executor of the disputed will as the fourth.
Tensions rose after Sunjay Kapur’s sudden death on June 12, 2025, while playing polo in Windsor, UK. The children performed his final rites in Delhi, but soon after, Priya Kapur allegedly began restricting their access to trust documents and financial records.
The plaintiffs further allege that they were summoned to meetings of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd. (Sona Comstar), a flagship company linked to the Kapur family, and pressured to sign legal documents without being given full transparency about the trust deed or assets.
Background: Karisma and Sunjay’s marriage
Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur were married from 2003 to 2016, before divorcing after 13 years. They had two children during the marriage, who are now at the centre of the legal dispute.
At the core of the case lies the March 2025 will that reportedly grants Priya Kapur ownership of all of Sunjay’s personal property. The children, however, maintain the document is forged and are demanding their rightful one-fifth share each in the estate.
