Kimberly-Clark has announced plans to procure wheeled renewable electricity for its South African manufacturing plants as part of its broader sustainability strategy.

Kimberly-Clark is a global consumer goods group whose brands – including Huggies, Kleenex, Scott, Kotex, Cottonelle and Depend – are sold in more than 175 countries. The company holds the number one or two market positions in about 70 countries and has been recognised for its ethical and innovative business practices.

The group said it will launch a request for proposal (RFP) process in August 2025 to source electricity for its Epping and Enstra facilities. The process will be conducted through the Independent Energy Pool (IEP) platform, with renewable energy generators and traders invited to register to participate.

“This initiative builds on the substantial progress that Kimberly-Clark has already made through the sourcing and generation of renewable energy and underscores the organisation’s continued commitment to minimising its environmental footprint across its global operations,” the company said.

The initiative forms part of Kimberly-Clark’s 2030 sustainability strategy, which targets a 50% reduction in operational emissions from a 2015 base year, alongside broader commitments to improve the lives and wellbeing of one billion people in underserved communities worldwide.

IEP will host a free online information session to guide potential bidders through the RFP process, with registration available on its website.
