Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber Both Attend Academy Gala After Squashing Drama

Hours after shutting down potential drama about their respective beauty brands, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber each stepped out at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala.

Gomez, 33, attended the benefit on Saturday, October 18, with husband Benny Blanco, making their first red carpet appearance since tying the knot late last month.

Gomez and Blanco, 37, both wore Armani ensembles. While the record producer sported a midnight blue velvet suit and a matching silk shirt, Gomez sparkled in a custom Armani Privé black gown with crystals dotting the bodice and a coordinating velvet evening jacket over her shoulders. The Only Murders in the Building actress accessorized her outfit with De Beers jewelry.

For glam, Gomez wore a plum-colored lipstick with a matching manicure, in addition to styling her signature dark locks in a sleek updo.

Bieber, 28, walked the red carpet later that evening with her best friend Kendall Jenner. Complementing Jenner’s black frock, Bieber opted for a chocolate-colored strapless Schiaparelli dress with a sheer corset alongside earrings and rings from Tiffany & Co.

Shortly before the two women’s red carpet outing, Gomez addressed Bieber’s recent comments comparing their respective beauty brands.

“Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants,” Gomez wrote in a since-deleted Instagram Story message, per screenshots obtained by multiple outlets. “Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance not intelligence. Be kind.”

Gomez added, “All brands inspire me [and] there is room for everyone, and hopefully we can all stop.”

Bieber had been asked whether she felt her beauty brand, Rhode Skin, was in direct competition with Gomez’s Rare Beauty in a Wall Street Journal profile.

“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Bieber told the outlet in an interview published earlier this week. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”

Fans have long speculated that Gomez and Hailey had been at odds for years given their respective relationships with Justin Bieber. Gomez dated Justin, 31, on and off from 2009 to 2018. Justin started dating Hailey after his breakup with Gomez.

“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” Justin previously told GQ in March 2016. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Justin and Hailey, who got married in September 2018, as well as Gomez have all shut down viral rumors that there was relationship overlap.

“It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf because it was their relationship,” Hailey said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022. “I honestly respect that very deeply, but I just know what was going on when we got back together. And I know what had to happen for that to come back together in a healthy way, and I think it was the most healthy, mature decision that he could have made and I respect that.”

Hailey and Justin later welcomed their first child, son Jack Blues, in August 2024.
