Vijay Antony reunites with director Sasi for ‘Nooru Saami’

Actor-producer Vijay Antony and director Sasi, the duo behind the blockbuster 2016 film Pichaikkaran, are all set to reunite for an upcoming film titled Nooru Saami.

Backed by Fatima Vijay Antony under Vijay Antony Film Corporation, the film was announced on Wednesday (September 10) with a title poster.

Nooru Saami will feature Lijomol Jose and Swasika in pivotal roles. Vijay Antony’s nephew Ajay Dishan, who made his film debut in Vijay’s Maarganand is headlining a film called Pookie under VAFC, is also part of the cast.

With music scored by Balaji Sriram, the upcoming film will have cinematography by Darshan Kirlosh and editing by Kannan Balu.

Nooru Saami will release in theatres in May 2026, ten years since the release of Pichaikkaran. Interestingly, the title ‘Nooru Saami’ is a hat-tip to the song ‘Nooru Samigal’ from the 2016 film. It remains unknown if the upcoming film is a follow-up or a spiritual sequel to Pichaikkaran, especially since Vijay made a direct sequel to the film, titled Pichaikkaran 2, in 2023. The sequel, which marked Vijay’s directorial debut, unfortunately couldn’t recreate the magic of the first film.

However, the reunion between Sasi and Vijay Antony is certainly something to look forward to. Their Pichaikkaran (released in Telugu as Bichagadu) turned out to be a blockbuster at the box office while also garnering critical acclaim. The film was also remade in Odia, Marathi and Kannada languages.

Notably, in May this year, Vijay Antony had announced his reunion with Sasi in a film produced by Ramesh Pillai under the Abishek Films banner. It remains unknown if Nooru Saami is a different script or if it’s the same pitch that has undergone a change in the production banner.
