Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, are officially parents.

The couple announced the arrival of their son, Rome, on Friday, September 12.

“Welcome to the world Rome Micah McCarthy ✨,” Kuropas wrote via Instagram. “The sweetest, most perfect gift from God!! We are so unbelievably blessed to be your parents 💙.”

The Vikings quarterback, who was present for Rome’s birth, left two enthusiastic comments on his wife’s post, writing, “God is GREAT!” and “& so are you my love @katyakuropas.”

McCarthy and Kuropas announced in May that they were expecting their first baby.

“The best surprises come when you least expect them,” they captioned a joint Instagram post, sharing maternity photos. “Our sweet baby boy is arriving in September and we couldn’t be happier.”

Kuropas celebrated the newborn’s arrival during a baby shower several months later.

“My moms threw me the baby shower of my dreams 🧸💙✨,” Kuropas wrote via Instagram in July. “So many friends and family members came and showered me with all the love, i feel so blessed!! This baby is already so spoiled.”

McCarthy and Kuropas have been together since they were in high school. They got engaged in January 2024.

“Me, You & Marley Forever and Ever ✨🤍,” a joint Instagram post read, alongside photos from McCarthy’s beachside proposal.

Weeks earlier, Kuropas called McCarthy “the best thing that ever happened” to her in a gushing birthday tribute.

“Happy birthday my love. You are the best thing that ever happened to me!!” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “You inspire me every day. I love you so much. Beyond words. Can’t wait for forever with you.”

McCarthy returned the favor that same month when Kuropas turned 21.

“Happy 21st to the woman of my dreams and my rock! Unconditionally grateful for the human you are and the impact you have had on me these past 5+ years,” McCarthy captioned a social media tribute. “Our partnership is something I will cherish for the rest of my life because of how it enhances our ability to serve our mission in the world. [Our dog] Marley and I love you unconditionally!”

McCarthy was drafted by the Vikings last year after playing football at the University of Michigan for three seasons.
