Vodacom hits record Level 1 B-BBEE status

Vodacom has tightened its grip on transformation leadership in South Africa, achieving its highest-ever Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) score to date.

The telecoms group announced on Monday (9 June) that both Vodacom Group and Vodacom South Africa have once again retained their Level 1 B-BBEE status, marking six and seven consecutive years respectively, at the highest contributor level.

The 2025 verification saw Vodacom Group score 127.07 points, up from 122.50 in 2024, while Vodacom South Africa notched up 126.84 points, also a record.

The ratings were based on the Amended ICT Sector Codes and assessed across ownership, management control, employment equity, skills development, procurement, enterprise development and socio-economic development.

Other highlights from the company’s 2025 assessment include its progress on black ownership, which climbed to 36.49% from 35.53%, and black women ownership, which rose to 18.68% from 17.59%.

IoT.nxt, one of the group’s key subsidiaries, achieved Level 1 status for the first time.

“These results are a testament to our unwavering commitment to transformation and inclusive growth,” said Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub.

“These positive outcomes were achieved despite a challenging economic climate. They underscore our resilience and the effectiveness of our transformation strategy, which is built on the pillars of inclusivity, equality and diversity. We remain committed to driving systemic change and making a tangible impact in the communities we serve.”
