10 Most Popular Prime Video Movies and Shows (Oct. 20-24)

The Boys is one of Prime Video’s most popular shows, so it was only natural that a spinoff, Gen V, would follow to capitalize on its success.

Now back for a second season, Gen V chronicles the eventful sophomore season for the super-powered students at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. There’s a new Dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater), and he’s hellbent on turning his charges into super soldiers at any cost. White Lotus season 3 fans, take note — season 1 star Patrick Schwarzenegger won’t be returning this season for one very good reason.

Fans of Shane Black’s action-comedy The Nice Guys will love the director’s latest film, Play Dirty. An entertaining adaptation of several Donald E. Westlake novels, Mark Wahlberg stars as Parker, a career criminal who is good at his job and never makes a mistake.

After Parker is betrayed by his getaway driver, Zen (Rosa Salazar), in a robbery, he vows revenge. But he soon discovers that it’s not easy to kill someone who has ties to a powerful foreign dictator who is even more intimidating — and powerful — than Parker.

One of the biggest Prime Video hits in recent years is Culpa Mia (My Fault), a romantic drama chronicling the beginning of Nick (Gabriel Guevara) and Noah’s (Nicole Wallace) love affair. One year after the successful sequel Culpa Tuya (Your Fault), the trilogy concludes with Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault). 

Years after their breakup, Nick and Noah reunite at a mutual friend’s wedding. Time hasn’t softenced their intense feelings for each other, but can they resume a relationship that’s as passionate — and destructive— as their’s?

If you grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, chances are, you grew up with John Candy. The beloved comedian starred in some of the era’s biggest comedy hits like Spaceballs and Home Alone, so his death in 1994 hit hard for many.

In the new documentary, John Candy: I Like Me, colleagues and friends like Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O’ Hara, Mel Brooks, Tom Hanks and more recall their time working with the actor and the legacy he left behind.

All summers must end, even for teenage girls caught in hopelessly convoluted love triangles. Amazon’s popular YA series The Summer I Turned Pretty just ended, but fans still can’t get enough of the three-season series. 

Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) is a typical teenage girl who spends her summers by the beach, contemplating life.  Complications ensue when she falls for two childhood friends, Jeremiah and Conrad (Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney), who also happen to be brothers. Can the three teens remain friends while navigating the complicated affairs of the heart?

Prime Video’s last big summer release was The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, a spinoff of the streamer’s massively popular 2022 series starring Chris Pratt. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is back as US Navy SEAL James Reece, but now he’s supporting Taylor Kitsch’s Ben Edwards, who’s front and center in this prequel series that consists of seven episodes.

Dark Wolf chronicles Edwards’ time as a soldier infiltrating the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is deep in negotiations of a landmark nuclear arms deal with America. Helping Ben out is fellow mercenary Raife Hastings (Tom Hopper), who has his own dark past to overcome. 

Prime Video’s hit thriller machine continues with The Girlfriend, which has been an instant hit ever since it premiered in early September.

Laura Sanderson (Robin Wright) loves her adult son, Daniel (Laurie Davidson), but doesn’t exactly trust his beautiful new girlfriend, Cherry (Olivia Cooke). Her suspicions deepen when she finds out Cherry is hiding some dark secrets about her family — secrets she doesn’t want Laura to find out. But a mother’s love is a powerful force, and the truth about Cherry — and Laura herself — threatens to surface. Will Daniel have to choose between his mother and the love of his wife?

Prime Video subscribers love their B-action movies, and Jason Statham is the king of them. His latest film, A Working Man, has him playing Levon Cade, a former Royal Marine Commando who is now retired and living a peaceful life as a construction worker in Chicago.

But when a friend’s daughter is kidnapped and asks him to help find her, he’s pulled back into a life filled with fistfights, shoot-outs and bloodshed. Can Levon reawaken his killer instinct to help his friend out? Or has this old dog run out of new tricks to survive another day?

Who knew the modern rom-com classic You’ve Got Mail needed an update? In Prime Video’s Maintenance Required, the classic Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan charmer gets a tune-up in this story of two strangers who meet online and fall in love.

The only trouble? Charlie (Madelaine Petsch) is a small-town auto shop owner who is being put out of business by Beau (Jacob Scipio), who owns a big corporate auto store. Uh-oh! Once these two virtual lovebirds discover who they really are, can they still strike up a lasting romance? 

June Havens (Cameron Diaz) is an ordinary woman who suddenly finds herself in an extraordinary situation when rogue agent Roy Miller (Tom Cruise) kills several people on her flight and crash-lands the plane. He’s actually a good guy on the run from some evil people who want the Zephyr, an energy battery that has the power to change the world — if the right people have it. Roy doesn’t want it to fall into the wrong hands, and he’ll need June’s help to prevent that from happening.

An entertaining mix of romantic comedy and action film, Knight and Day is one of Cruise’s most underrated films, so it’s not surprising to see Prime Video subscribers rediscovering one of the actor’s hidden gems.
