John Stamos and Lori Loughlin's Best Quotes About Their Relationship

9 hours ago 1

John Stamos and Lori Loughlin played one of TV’s greatest couples and their off-screen relationship has been just as sweet.

Stamos and Loughlin connected prior to their time on Full House, even going on a date to Disneyland when they were young adults. While it didn’t work out at the time, they reconnected when they joined the cast of Full House. Stamos starred as Uncle Jesse while Loughlin played his love interest, Aunt Becky.

A romance didn’t blossom for Loughlin and Stamos as the actress was with her first husband, Michael Burns. Loughlin and Burns were married from 1989 to 1996. The following year, Loughlin moved on with Mossimo Giannulli. Stamos, for his part, was married to Rebecca Romijn from 1998 to 2005 before he found the one with Caitlin McHugh.

“We did have some off timing,” Stamos said in a 2013 interview with the Huffington Post. “But no disrespect to her family and her husband now, I would say that she could be the one that got away.”

While a love connection did not form for Stamos and Loughlin, the pair cultivated a strong friendship that has lasted decades. Following Loughlin’s divorce from Giannulli in September 2025, Stamos even voiced his support for his former costar.

During a 2013 interview with the Huffington Post, Loughlin opened up about why she and Stamos never dated in real life.

“We were great friends … and we have chemistry. I was actually married at the time I was doing the show and then I got divorced, and when I got divorced he met Rebecca and he got married,” she recalled. “So our timing was just really off so I don’t think it really even entered our minds that it would be something more.”

That same year, Stamos spoke to the outlet to call Loughlin “the one who got away.”

“She’s one of my dearest friends, and that’s good enough,” he confessed. “But I really do adore her.”

After hearing Stamos’ remarks, Loughlin told Yahoo’s Daily Shot that it “was very nice of him to say that.”

Missing His Wedding

When Loughlin could not attend Stamos’ wedding to McHugh due to a work commitment, she exclusively told Us Weekly that she sent something special to the happy couple.

“I sent flowers and I was really bummed that I already had plans,” she told Us. “But I’m so happy for John, by the way. I’m so happy he’s going to be a dad. He’s going to be a great dad. He’s always been good with kids. And Caitlin is just the greatest girl. She’s so good for him. I’m happy to see that he’s finally found love.”

In Stamos’ 2023 memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, the actor opened up about his bond with Loughlin.

“She’s my Sandra Dee from Grease, the good girl with a kind heart who always makes me feel upbeat when I’m around her,” he wrote. “She’s one of the few women I have spent day after day with and still always look forward to seeing her again. I know what makes her laugh, we get each other and we have the sort of true friendship that’s supposed to be the foundation of a great, lasting relationship.”

Stamos shared that Loughlin has been a “cherished friend” throughout his life as they’ve both struggled with tough moments in their lives.

“We’ve weathered storms together and stood by each other’s sides, despite life‘s hurdles. We’ve seen each other at our worst,” he penned. “I’ve witnessed moments where giving up could’ve been the easiest way out for Lori. She could have shifted the blame and let her family, marriage, and life crumble. But she didn’t. No matter how hard she was hit, how desperate everyone was to cancel her and throw her in with the pile of brutal criminals, she stood fast, protecting her daughters from the mud hurled at them day after day after day.”

Having Her Back

One month after news broke of Loughlin’s split from Giannulli, Stamos shared his support for his longtime friend.

“40 years I’ve known her,” Stamos said during an October 2025 episode of the “Good Guys” podcast. “You can see through people after a few years. This woman’s a saint. I’m just heartbroken for her right now.”

Stamos also did not hold back his thoughts about Giannulli and blamed him for the twosome’s involvement in the college admissions scandal.

“I really tried to be there for her during this time and also with the college scandal … I’m not going to debate whether she had much to do with it or not,” he said. “I know she didn’t.”
