Amal Clooney Praises Husband George's Support: 'I Have a Partner in Life'

Amal Clooney feels grateful that she and husband George Clooney have each other.

“I have a partner in life who is so supportive of what I do. So I don’t feel like I have to apologize for it or rein it in,” the human rights attorney, 47, told Glamour in an interview published on Thursday, July 3. “And I remember when I became a mom, which was obviously a new frontier, he was the first one to say, ‘I know you’ve got this speech at the Security Council. You have to go. I’ve got the kids, don’t worry about it.’”

George, 64, and Amal have been married since 2014, going on to welcome twins Alexander and Ella in 2017.

“I feel so incredibly lucky to share every day with him, and now we’re four,” Amal added to Glamour. “I don’t take any of it for granted. I treasure the laughter and the joy that I get from just being with them.”

Amal further gushed that her family is “the greatest joy” in her life.

“The people I love — my husband, our children, our friends, filling our house with people we love,” she told the outlet about how she finds happiness. “That’s the greatest joy in my life and what gives me balance.”

Outside of her home life, Amal is a dedicated lawyer and activist.

“I was lucky. I grew up in a place that was safe with parents who supported me, and an amazing education. Many girls don’t have this start in life. They face very significant barriers, and it’s a driving force in my work to remove those barriers,” Amal said. “I was born in a part of the world — in the Middle East — where many women don’t have equal rights and many girls don’t have the same opportunities as boys.”

She continued, “It’s been a driving force in my work to try to use legal tools to remove those obstacles wherever we can, so that a girl can start her life with the same chance as her brother. I think it also gives us a perspective when you watch young girls in Iran with a backpack on, trying to protest for their most basic rights, and you just think about the risks that girls are having to take around the world to just get basic freedom.”

Amal also supports George in his career endeavors, recently joining him and the twins in New York City for the duration of his Tony-nominated run in the Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck.

“They love being here [and] we’re having a really fun time,” George gushed of Alexander and Ella during a February appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. “Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night and you get to see the kids during the day, so it’s OK.”
