Britani Bateman’s experience on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City deeply affected the relationship she has with her daughters.
“The first season, neither one of them wanted anything to do with it,” Britani, 54, exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Thursday, October 16, when promoting the Bravo reality show. “They’ve been hearing rumors at the time that I was on. Olivia wanted to film with me initially, and then my other daughter [Taylor] didn’t. I knew that, but then they both ended up ghosting me when they started hearing rumors that I was crap talking them on the show.”
To this day, Britani said she still doesn’t know exactly where the rumors came from. But they were estranged for several months.
“It felt like years, but it probably was, like, February to June. It was a long time,” she explained to Us. “And then finally, in June, my sister sat down one of my daughters and said, ‘What is going on?’ My younger sister — who was closer to my daughters at that point — said, ‘What is going on with you? Why won’t you speak to your mom?’”
While fans will have to watch the family unit repair their relationship this season on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, Britani hinted that everyone is in a better place today.
“I feel like I can tease that things have changed for the better. For me, if we’re going forward in a positive way, that’s all I can ask for in this world,” she said. “You’ll have to just tune in and see because it’s played out pretty detailed on the show, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it again.”
Britani is hopeful that her family’s story can “help other people.” At the same time, she hopes viewers understand that she never intended to choose a man over her kids.
Britani was last linked to Jared Osmond but she says they are just friends at this time.
“I think that people have a misconception that what they see is what they get, and there is a lot deeper [stuff] and there is so much more to it,” she explained about her family dynamics. “There’s so much more to the story.”
Britani also explained that while she was with Jared, one of her daughters was living overseas while the other was in college working two jobs.
Nonetheless, Britani said she wonders how different her life would be if she chose to avoid dating anyone and simply focus on being the best single mom to her girls.
“I wish I were more like Heather [Gay] and just choose to not date, not get remarried. That’s what I would do,” she said. “I wish so badly I could go back in time and just focus 100 percent on getting my kids off to college and then it’s me time. … Looking back, I should have just been a single mom.”
As Britani continues to rebuild a relationship with her daughters, she is hard at work preparing for her upcoming cabaret show.
This December, Britani will travel to New York City’s iconic 54 Below in a show called What About Me: An Evening with Britani Bateman.
According to the event description, attendees can expect dazzling vocals, dream roles brought to life, surprise guest appearances and even some more announcements as Britani shows the world exactly why everyone’s asking, “What about her?”
