Chelsea Freeman Reacts to Dodgers Pitcher Alex Vesia’s Family Matter

The Dodgers family is coming together to support pitcher Alex Vesia as he handles a “personal family matter” during the World Series.

“Please keep the Vesias in your prayers 💙,” Freddie Freeman’s wife, Chelsea Freeman, wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, October 23.

The well-wishes came hours after the Los Angeles Dodgers announced one of its star pitchers would be stepping away from the team ahead of the championship series for undisclosed reasons.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the MLB team wrote via Instagram on Thursday. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”

One day later, the Dodgers revealed its 26-man roster for the World Series as they face off against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Alex was noticeably missing from the 12 pitchers listed on the roster. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday, October 24, at 8 p.m. ET.

Back in April, Alex and his wife, Kayla Vesia, announced that they are expecting their first baby later this year.

“Baby Vesia coming soon, we are beyond excited for this next chapter 🐣🍼🤍,” the couple wrote via a joint Instagram post. “Thank you to our amazing photographer @gracedayphotography & to my amazing friend for the news paper edit @ashleyyysade 🫶🏼.”

Since then, Kayla has documented special milestones in her pregnancy journey, including a baby shower thrown by the Los Angeles Dodgers wives.

She was also able to be at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles when Alex and his teammates advanced into the playoffs.

“& NOW… ONTO THE WORLD SERIES ‼️,” she wrote via Instagram on October 19. “Proud of you mí bebe ❤️‍🔥.”

Chelsea knows what it’s like to have the support of the Dodgers family and community. In August 2024, the influencer and her husband revealed that their 3-year-old son Max had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome, a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.

Max was rushed to the emergency room and spent eight days in the ICU after suddenly not being able to sit, stand or walk.

“He didn’t deserve this,” Freddie told reporters after his son’s hospitalization. “No one deserves this, anybody who goes through this. It’s not just my family. We were going every night, and every room is filled in the [pediatric ICU]. And that is heartbreaking. So many families are going through things like this. We’re one of the lucky ones that got Guillain-Barré that he might have a full recovery. There are kids out there who are fighting for their lives right now. It just puts everything in perspective.”

The World Series MVP added, “I know Dodger fans don’t like this, but I would gladly strike out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7 of the World Series 300 million times in a row than see that again.”

When Freddie returned to Dodger Stadium after his son’s health scare sidelined him for multiple Dodgers games, he received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Max was ultimately able to recover and cheer on his dad as his team won the World Series in October 2024.
