Indian states like Rajasthan, Bihar, and Maharashtra have reported new coronavirus cases, and a few deaths have also been reported. According to Public Health Department of Maharashtra, 86 new Covid cases were found on Wednesday, May 28. Meanwhile, six patients died due to Coronavirus and had underlying health conditions.
Covid in Rajasthan
Amid surge in COVID cases in Rajasthan, Principal and Controller of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College and Hospital, Jaipur, Dr Deepak Maheshwari said that eight cases have been reported in the hospital and one child was in serious condition.
Principal and Controller, SMS Medical College, Jaipur Dr Deepak Maheshwari said, "There is some resurgence of Covid. Cases have increased from before. Eight cases have been reported in the SMS in the last few days. One person has died, but it was not due to COVID. Now we are keeping an eye but whatever cases are coming up, there are cases of mild COVID or respiratory disease. There is generally no lower respiratory tract involvement. There is an upper respiratory tract involvement."
Chandigarh
A 40-year-old patient on Wednesday succumbed to COVID-19 virus at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, officials said.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order to keep more than 2800 employees who worked during the previous COVID time in permanent service.
The development takes place after there has been a sudden surge in Coronavirus cases in the country.
Patna, Bihar
With fresh concerns over Covid-19 resurgence, six new Coronavirus infections have been confirmed in Bihar's capital Patna, including among healthcare workers at AIIMS-Patna.
The latest spike has prompted hospitals across the state to go on high alert, with precautionary measures being swiftly reinstated.
Among the newly-infected are a female doctor, a female nurse, and another employee of AIIMS-Patna, all currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of senior doctors.
Punjab
Two active COVID-19 cases were reported in Punjab on Wednesday, according to Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh. One patient is from Yamunanagar, and the other is from Ambala. Both are undergoing treatment.
Covid new variant
COVID-19 cases are rising again as a new variant begins to circulate in some parts of the world. The World Health Organization said Wednesday the rise in cases is primarily in the eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and western Pacific regions.
Airport screening in the United States has detected the new variant in travelers arriving from those regions to destinations in California, Washington state, Virginia and New York. The new variant is called NB.1.8.1. It arrives as the United States’ official stance on COVID-19 vaccination is changing.
On Tuesday, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that COVID-19 shots are no longer recommended for healthy children and pregnant women — a move immediately questioned by several public health experts. The new variant, increasing globally, had by mid-May reached nearly 11% of sequenced samples reported.
Massive surge in Thailand
In a single week, there are 53,000 cases reported in Thailand. However, according to the government, the situation is under control and they have not implemented any travel restrictions.
