Duchess of Kent Demise News: Buckingham Palace on Friday announced with "deep sorrow" the death of the Duchess of Kent, Katharine, at the age of 92.

She "passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family," the Palace said in its statement. The Union Flag at Buckingham Palace has been lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect.

Katharine was the oldest member of the Royal Family and the wife of Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
